FYI, I am at heart a true socialist (think resource based economy). But in order to get through life in this age comfortably, you gotta be a capitalist.
Alpha as fuck.
The manslaughter weapon in question (5yo kills 2yo) was manufactured by a company that not only manufactures firearms for kids, but does so in a smorgasbord of shiny, attractive colors that wouldn't look out of place on a toy store shelf between the Barbie and TMNT. How can you say they're not targeting youth?13rin wrote:

Age isn't a good reason just to ditch the constitution nowadays, but I hardly think that keeping the constitution (which we have the right to amend as we like) original is the real motive behind many pro-gun people. If it was, they'd stop neglecting the first part of the Second Amendment: "A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state..." It's more of a paranoid idea that the US Government is going to go all totalitarian for whatever reason.Nyte wrote:
Why do we need guns? Blah blah civil liberties blah. The constitution is like a million years old now. So fucking backwards that these "patriots" are still defending a "right" that is obviously outdated and only meant for its period.
well yes, yes you did call me an "anti-capitalist liberal" because i posted something a little bit critical of america. yes, you did. not "no".Nyte wrote:

No. You mistake me. They are taught to hate and fear them. They are not being give guns at a young age.Uzique The Lesser wrote:
right. so the problem isn't kids being given guns at a young age. it's a "left wing conspiracy" to make kids be "fearful" of guns. perverse reasoning.
Don't be retarded. The clock rolls back much faster than you think.Nyte wrote:

I'm a socialist because of my beliefs, not actions (that sounds stupid I know).Uzique The Lesser wrote:

and riiiiight. "at heart" you're a true socialist, except you have no conviction whatsoever in your beliefs, and you instead prefer bragging about your "success" and "lifestyle" on an internet forum. how are you in any way a socialist? it's pretty laughable to profess a belief on one hand and then practice something else entirely when it comes to real-life. that is completely contemptible.
I am not familiar with the metaphor you used. Please explain.13rin wrote:

So if Ty is a huge LotR fan but doesn't live in a hobbit hole or have hobbit feet, he can still be a hobbit?Nyte wrote:

He can believe he is one sure, others won't though (because he doesn't act like one nor possess physical/genetic traits to be one).unnamednewbie13 wrote:

Governments collapse all the time. Hell, that doesn't even need to occur. A natural disaster is enough to wipe out law and order.Nyte wrote:

I'm sorry, I missed this one. Please direct me to what you're talking about.unnamednewbie13 wrote:

The weapon in question was manufactured by a company that makes kid-sized firearms in a bunch of different styles, which unfortunately include bright, colorful and attractive single- and multi-tone configurations, my criticism being that it's a little manipulative and irresponsible to specifically market an adult product to children of such a young age.unnamednewbie13 wrote:

Anyway, the whole story stinks of bullshit. Either they're lying about the kid being properly trained or the kid is being framed by his own parent.
Ah.. My bad.. I see what you're on about... Nah, this is textbook bad parenting. Apologies to Uzi as his point was a tad late. I had a "youth sized" .22 back in the day. It's like a amped up pellet gun. They're out there to facilitate proper shooting technique as it's kinda hard to teach a kid to shoot a full size bolt action, so its scaled down. Again, proper supervision is the fail here. But still, what's to stop the kid from stabbing the fuck outta his sib cause knives are readily accessible or hitting em with the hammer from the garage? But back to the marketing... When was the last time (as you run to google) that you've seen a "chipmunk .22" ad?unnamednewbie13 wrote:

I don't know which one the "trained" kid was "playing with" while the mom who knew he was "playing" with it stepped outside, but here's the brightly-colored, attractive lineup marketed for children:
Examples -
pew pew pew pew *boom*
wtf america

True socialism hasn't been tried, so it hasn't failed, but we've seen how various reasonable attempts have failed so its probably not worth trying.Nyte wrote:

My core socialist beliefs:
- Notion of unemployment should not exist, everyone gets a duty and abides by it for the betterment of society
- Notion of currency should not exist
- Everyone has the basic necessity of life
- Every duty everyone abides by has the same worth to society (a janitor can be just as required as a doctor)
- Rules/regulations/law still exists, and is decided by the majority of the people rather than a select few
There is no way that my actions can ever be reformed in any near future to abide by these beliefs. So rather than attempt to "live by these beliefs" (which is impossible), I choose to live by whatever society I am living in right now. It doesn't change what I truly believe to be a better society.
Obviously there are opponents to the the socialist doctrine (assuming they go by my definition of socialism). I've heard them all:
- "oh but humans aren't like that, they are lazy and will take advantage"
- "there is no motivation for people to work or be doctors/engineers/scientists"
- "oh this will lead to anarchy"
- "technological innovation will be stifled and will slow to a crawl"
etc etc.
Until I see clear evidence that "true socialism" has failed, my beliefs still stand instead of all the conservative/liberal rhetoric (I don't consider liberals to be socialist, they are MORE socialist but they are still capitalists at heart).
I'm sure he could have clubbed her to death with his face, too, but it would be a more deliberate action than an accidental discharge (if it was accidental).13rin wrote:

sorry, but you are not a socialist. saying you 'agree' with the principles of an ideology but then only acting in the opposite is not 'being' something. it is 'being' the opposite, whilst acting as a mouthpiece for that which you simultaneously disown. hegel states that man should be judged by his own self-determined actions, in accordance with his own internal motives and ethics. hegel pretty much underpins all progressive/socialist thought. you are in no way a socialist. jesus man, you frequently come to this forum and, in completely petty and unrelated 'debates', make recourse to the "stfu, i am better than you IRL in every single way" ... "i have a better job, earn more money, am more qualified, drive a nicer car, and more good looking" etc. type spiel every time someone even makes a remark about something as dumb as your sniper stats.Nyte wrote:

Going by your line of thought, tht means nobody on the planet is a socialist because they don't exhibit those required actions. We live in a capitalist world and must abide by it less we be made.Uzique The Lesser wrote:

but then you say
"Notion of currency should not exist" (fyi there is nothing in socialism that wants to abolish currency; exchange-value is the problem)
"Every duty everyone abides by has the same worth to society (a janitor can be just as required as a doctor)"
rolling on the floor laughing. you are bought and sold on that capitalist 'status symbol' and 'ostentatious lifestyle' shit as much as the next asian parvenu. people will think of you as a lesser human being for as long as you continue parroting some trendy-progressive ideology that you in no way practice or possess personal conviction for. that sort of flimsy thinking is what gets Jay hounded in this sub-forum almost every other day.
