I hope Jason Bay resurrects his career with you guys. Always like him as a person, because you could tell he tried his ass off, even if the results with the Mets were... unsightly.

Just ridiculous.

I'd like to see the other major sports go the route of the NFL. You don't perform. You can get cut. All this guaranteed money is ridiculous. Also have a salary cap.

I kind of like the idea of the tax in MLB. I think it should be more like 2x or 3x instead of just 1 but it allows for teams to go over should they want to and have the means to (and this coming from a lifetime yankee hater too). To me it's fair.

But yeah paying someone a guaranteed amount to sit on the bench with a bruised pinky all season is pretty much bullshit.

On the flip side, the way that the NFL chews up players and spits them out as soon as they get hurt is pretty disgusting.

And MLB teams have absolute control of their players for their first six years in the majors, limiting their compensation every step of the way. Teams don't have to offer guaranteed contracts to players, but they're not going to sign many good ones without the guarantee. It's just how the system developed over time.

They used to have absolute control over them (and their salary) for the entirety of their career so it's getting better. I guess we're just in the middle of that evolution

Not absolute control. Players are eligible for arbitration after year 3 if they aren't signed to a deal.

Well, yeah, but it's not like the player can jump to a different team if he doesn't like what he gets in arbitration.
