Just got our internet back on (been using our iPhones as modems for a whole month). Big improvement.

PS: Telstra dropped the ball so fucking bad on this one. Three times they promised us net and never delivered, and did not try to make up for it in service. Optus got it right first time with a three day turnaround.

We haven't got it in Brisbane and didn't get it when I was Melbourne last December. I rang up about it and they said it hasn't been rolled out yet. Moving to Sydney in four weeks, so...

Only advisable if you don't get ripped off when going over the traffic limit.

I have 2GB monthly traffic after which I get throttled to 64kbit, but at least I wouldn't get surprise bills.
I once used it for several days when my home connection was down, and I almost reached that traffic only by playing some CS:GO.

I have 3gb with an additional 2gb for the first 6 months as a promo deal.

First phone bill came in, data usage was around 4.5gb and they tried to charge me for the extra 1.5gb. I contacted them and they quickly removed it from the bill, which was nice. I'd imagine if I was with Telstra they would've made up some bullshit and still try to make me pay.

I assume you're on Optus 4G? Because Telstra 4G has a pretty extensive roll out so far, I get good 4G reception in smaller places like Toowoomba and the Sunny Coast as well as the capitals which is nice.

The NBN just got switched on in my town as well but it looks like it will be another year before it actually gets to my house (by which time I will have moved out).

Yeah Optus 4G. I still haven't got it yet. I did call and they said as of mid December last year it had not been rolled out in Brisbane or Melbourne CBDs.

Results with my iPhone 5 over my Verizon FiOS Wireless N, I think I did one with my friend's Comcast wifi at least one time and also did one with either 4G or LTE for that one time as you can see

You'll also notice how the app hasn't been optimized for the taller iPhone 5 screen yet so it has a vertical letterbox

Updated LTE speed while I was out at a restaurant, 10Mbps faster than my home internet and only about 5Mbps less upload speed.

People on Sprint with their still-existing unlimited data plans almost won't even need a home internet hookup anymore with LTE if they live by themselves and don't game and you might even be able to do that if you're in a place with good reception unlike my room, 85ms is plenty playable if the connection isn't bouncing around while you're playing(it was doing that for me when I tried it on BF2).

You can just tether the phone while charging it through USB the whole time, and you'll have your phone and internet all in one device. Only problem is, Sprint doesn't even really have 4G deployed in this area let alone LTE, my friend said he has never seen anything other than 3G on his Sprint iPhone 5, it's awful how behind they are. Also depending on your phone, you might not be able to use data and voice simultaneously, like the Verizon iPhone 5
