Nothing more needs to be said. I could hug Leigh Sales.
You could see the wheels turn in his head as he contemplated the how best to brush it off and hope the rest of the interview didn't cruicify him.
He knew if he left the dead air for too much longer he'd have had to answer "yes".

Appreciatively and platonicly of course, no rogue intrusions digging into her hip.

Seriously that interview will make me sleep easier. I've been seething all day over that shit News Ltd. and Fairfax is passing off as journalism. Even tabloid journalism has some standards, that article had none. No value whatsoever.

And I wasn't just mad because the Daily Telegraph website didn't publish my comment tearing down their bullshit while publishing multiple mindless natterings from people who backed them up. Although it was a big part in my mood. Fuckwits...

Sky News, but anyway....

One Nation co-founder to sue Tony Abbott

A co-founder of the One Nation Party, David Ettridge, is planning to sue federal Opposition Leader Tony Abbott for damages of more than $1.5 million.

Mr Ettridge has accused Mr Abbott of acting unlawfully in 1998 by assisting and encouraging litigation against One Nation in the Queensland courts.

He alleges the court action was false and malicious and the resulting damage affected him greatly.

He also accuses Mr Abbott of attempting to pervert the course of justice by providing lawyers 'to propel those false claims through the courts'.

'I will be filing a claim against Tony Abbott in the Brisbane Supreme Court seeking damages in excess of $1.5 million,' Mr Ettridge told AAP on Tuesday.

'I will also be asking the court to compel Mr Abbott to release the names of the people who contributed to Mr Abbott's 'Australians for Honest Politics Trust', so the trust can be fully examined for whatever contribution it made to any unlawful activity at that time.'

Mr Ettridge said he would be alleging that those donors became co-conspirators in Mr Abbott's actions.

He said Mr Abbott should face the allegations before he seeks to become Australia's next prime minister.

'If my claims are found by the court to be true then Mr Abbott may need to step aside and avoid bringing any embarrassment to the highest public office in Australia.

'For Mr Abbott, this is karma and I expect to be inundated by lawyers offering their services pro bono so I receive justice in this matter'.

Comment has been sought from Mr Abbott.
Please let this be true and go to court. Please.

It's been a fairly infuriating week in Australian politics so far. Hard to believe it's only Wednesday. Last week was pretty entertaining too given the Daily Telegraph's outstanding display of what it is to truly suck at journalism.

Actually on that, can Australian journalists please stop speculating? Or at very least stop using the word speculating. Try using the word "guessing", it gives a more accurate picture of what it is you're trying to present as news. Speculations mean nothing to me. Nor do anonymous claims that aren't followed up on.

How easy would it have been for Peter Hartcher to check with Mark Butler or Bob Carr before reporting that they had both dropped their support for Julia Gillard? Probably would have been worth the effort given that both immediately contradicted the report and made him look like the worthless hack he is. Thing is if he checked with Carr and Butler he wouldn't have had a story and that's no good. "Carr and Butler stand by Julia Gillard" isn't a decent story and while it may be a bold faced lie to write "Key Minister Drop Support for Gillard" it's not like Hanlon or Fairfax would ever be held to account.

Not that Australia needs media reform though. Isn't that right Fairfax CEO Greg Hywood? I thought there was nothing wrong with the media in Australia. You know, aside from the fact that it prints speculation and opinion as news, thinks comparing Government ministers to Stalin is intelligent reporting, and fails completely to check sources or do any form of investigative journalism leading to an ignorant and uninformed populace who's views are shaped by the opinions of media bosses and utterly failing to perform its crucial duty - I could go on. Aside from that though it's hunky-dory.

So, right, according to the media Julia Gillard was replaced twice by Kevin Rudd last week and once by Bill Shorten. So far this week she's been replaced by Simon Crean while Rudd drums up support for his own bid.

Look, Gillard has been the Prime Minister now for over 1000 days. The one thing we can take from this is that every time someone, be it the media or the Coalition, brings up an imminent leadership change they have been dead fucking wrong. Every time.

Despite immeasurable amounts of 'speculation' Gillard is still there. You know who's not still there though?

Coalition member Terry Mills. NT Chief Minister ousted by then Minister Adam Giles after seven months.
Coalition member Ted Ballieu. Victorian Premier ousted by then Victorian MLA Denis Napthine after a little over two years.
Coalition member Richard Torbay. NSW independent MP lined up as the Federal Nationals candidate for New England. Sacked after revelations of dodgy dealings with Eddie Obeid.

If I didn't know better I'd suggest that the Coalition has plenty of problems of their own. Two Coalition Premiers inside the same month? No commercial media outlet wants to run with this story at all?

But maybe Gillard won't be there at the end of the week or the month or before the election. I don't know. What I do know is that I could wonder about it as much as I liked and still be no closer to getting anything remotely conclusive.

And all of it amounts to absolutely nothing. Not one media outlet predicted when Rudd would be ousted and so far every story suggesting the same for Gillard has been wrong. The media is feeding off its own bullshit while every now and then the Coalition gives it a push to keep the merry-go-round spinning.

"There are reports that..."

Yes of course there are. You're the ones creating them.

"There is speculation that..."

Yes of course there is. You're the ones fueling it.

"The Coalition are expecting..."

Yes of course they are. They're the ones who benefit from proliferating it.

This sort of stuff represents some of the worst journalistic practices there are; this technically-correct-factually-absent use of language which attempts to showcase opinion or rumour as something more than irrelevant. It's the sort of thing I was urged out of using in my writing back in high school and it's the sort of thing that destroys the credibility of any media outlet using it. It's fucking shameful. Moreso that the industry's leaders and a significant portion of the nation's politicians don't seem to have a problem with it.

it's not confirmed but i'd be amazed. we're already seeing the first signs that rudd will be drafted and there are ways of calling a spill without julia doing it. might see an attempted no confidence motion in a few minutes.

my gut instinct is that she's a bit fucked, which is a bit sad imo. done some really good things in her time, tough tough lady.

Just noticed an interesting comment. If there is a new PM by the end of today we could be going to the polls in May.

could? it's highly likely. not only have the two key indies said they'd force an early election, one of them has a strong personal incentive - windsor is currently running unopposed!

Rudd could just turn it all around. Abbott would then likely be knocked off by Turnbull.

Well, back from work, it was exciting there for a bit and I'm genuinely surprised at Rudd's decision not to challenge. I think he was waiting to see if the party would force him to and since they didn't he stuck to his guns. It will be interesting to see what happens over the next few days, it could turn out to be a good strategy or the circus of it all could further cripple the Government.

Either way Tony probably dodged a bullet given the huge appreciation for Julia's apology while his own speech was marred by heckles due to an absent-minded faux pas.

Anyway for now I'd just like to say...

FUCKING. CALLED. IT. Over a fucking year and I fucking called it. All you Fairfax and News Ltd. fucks who make random unreasoned calls and act smug when one of them turns out correct, you're children yelling "green" at a stop light so you can convince yourself you're awesome when it changes. I am so much fucking better than you and I don't even live in the damn country or have the access to the sources you do.

It is okay though, I am a merciful champion. All you have to sacrifice to me is 10% of your yearly income and your freedom to use the word "slammed" as a replacement for the word "criticised". I've always hated that.
