So, amist all this chaos, I got my game working with the Full 1.3 patch without any problems.
Next day, back to the crap of it not working.
So, I sent a message to EA's technical support:
Servers are not jumping up and down the list (tried and tested with all maps, under all sorting options with 500 servers found).
I can join every map and it wont crash back to the desktop.
...it actually works!
It sucks that you have to delete the BF2 folder in My Documents, losing your screenshots and control setups -but you could just copy back in the config settings and voila.
See if it works for anybody else, since this would be interesting. Im also gona be testing it tomorrow, considering I did this with the full patch previously and it worked, yet failed the next day.
Next day, back to the crap of it not working.
So, I sent a message to EA's technical support:
Im assuming their response was an auto response:Since putting the 1.3 patch onto my game, there are several bugs.
I have tried both the incremental patch and the full update patch, both to no avail.
- Servers in the server list "swap around" when you click on them - they actually move about in the list, so you can never click the one you want.
- Even if you do get onto a server that you want, about half the time, it crashes out back to the desktop.
What use is the game to me in this state? Considering that just about the entire community is experiencing these issues (going by at least 10 sets of forums which I have read over), it appears as if this is a widespread issue, affecting, in my guesses, over 75% of us BF2 players.
Ive only had the game for 4months and cant believe that a patch with a bug such as this in it, could have ever been released. I refuse to reinstall the game, because why should I be spending my time reinstalling a game which I only installed a few months back to accomodate for a patch which is supposed to have been tested?
That is supposed to be your responsibility; not mine or anyone elses. Quite frankly, if I worked at EA and let this kind of a patch be released to the public, I would be embarrassed by the company and tender my resignation, because, for a company of your statue, it is embarrasing to say the least.
There hasnt even been any releases by yourselves to inform the community how to fix it, why its occurred or even a hint that there will be an additional patch to fix this one. Only messages saying "Download Patch 1.3 Now!!" - for what? So people can beta test it for you?
I suggest that you help us out, before you lose even more of your gaming community than you already have for some of the implements of patch 1.3, such as squad hopping and vehicle drops.
Some hint or answer would be very useful, and let this be a lesson to yourselves to actually test these patches to a certain extent before release.
So, my question at the end of all of this is:
How can I fix it so my game will work?
Even if it was an autorespose....it has actually WORKED for me.Hello,
Thank you for contacting Electronic Arts. I’m sorry for the difficulty that you are having with The Battlefield 2 game.
Please make sure that you have closed any programs or tasks running in the background as sometimes one of the programs can conflict with the game. Background applications such as anti-virus programs are often the cause of conflicts.
· Hold down the Ctrl, Alt, and Delete keys at the same time
· Click the "Processes" tab.
· Click on the gray bar in the middle column that says User Name to sort by user name.
· Do NOT select anything for SYSTEM, LOCAL SERVICE, or NETWORK SERVICE.
· Click on anything besides EXPLORER and TASKMGR for this User Name or other user names.
· Click on END PROCESS
· Repeat these steps until only explorer.exe and taskmgr.exe are open for this user profile.
Don't worry that you are permanently changing your system configuration; these applications will return when you restart your system.
If you receive a warning for any of these, don't worry it is a standard warning message and is expected. Please click "yes" and continue.
You will need to follow the steps below after updating or changing a setting.
1. Click on the Start button.
2. Click on the My Documents icon.
3. Right-click on the Battlefield2 folder.
4. Select delete.
· NOTE: All of the user stats are held server side. So customers should not lose any stats by doing this.
5. Try the game again.
In order to best troubleshoot your issue, I'm going to need additional system information. Please send me this information from a program called dxdiag.exe. To do this:
· Go to Start -> Run.
· In the box, type the following: dxdiag
· Click "OK"
· Click the "Save All Information" button on the first screen of the application.
· Then on top of the "Save As" box that pops up, select Desktop (if it's not set to save there already), then click Save.
· Finally, attach the dxdiag.txt to your email reply.
After we receive this file we can continue troubleshooting the issues at hand and hopefully come to a solution.
Should you require further assistance about this or any Electronic Arts games in the future please visit our website and review our extensive Self Help knowledgebase (http://support.ea.com)
Thanks!
