I wasn't here on the forums when the Sandy Hook shooting happened so I'll bring it up now. Apparently that scared my mom into thinking it would happen at the school where she works. She was evidently caught up in the knee-jerk reaction because it was an elementary school. My dad's also in the process of getting a permit to carry a CCW, which may or may not be a result of the shooting but he's talked about it for a few years now. However he has been stalled by the upsurge of scared people all doing the same and buying up all the ammo.
To me, it was just another shooting. I read it on the BBC the morning it happened and didn't anticipate it blowing up as it did into a media frenzy, but that was probably due to the "THINK OF THE CHILDREN" irrationality of people. Not to mention all the retarded "Obama's snatching up your guns" idiocy I've seen on the internet. The results of this shooting were almost surreal. Suggestions like fortifying schools and giving them armed guards made me think we were seeing a modern day version of "A Modest Proposal".

The problem is making stupid laws that have no effect on crime as the result of a tragedy.
For example, CT already has an AWB in place, but the shooting renewed calls for another federal one. The past one didn't reduce crime rates or the lethality of the average shooting.
