The U.S. is already the largest single economy in the world and has 90% of the GDP of the EU. Mexico has a manufacturing base larger than all of South America combined and quality of life is quickly coming in line with Americans. They are also posting 6% annual GDP growth. Canada has a ton of untapped resources that can be exploited.
The argument against is that each country will have to give up their sovergnity a little bit to get it all to work out. There is also the fear among Mexicans and Canadians that America will dominate both countries politically in the union. There is also a reluctance among many Americans to be in an arrangement that forces the U.S. to care about the economies and people of Mexico and Canada when we should, in their eyes, be moving towards a more individualistic society and economy.
