Strawman argument is as stupid as ever.
Do you issue a recall when 2 out of 300,000,000 parts fail? No.
You do if its 1/200,000 - which is your annual shooting homicide toll - far above the total per capita murder rate for most developed countries.

And if 20 kids died in a single car/bus/plane crash caused by a defective component you can bet there would be a recall.

1/200,000 would easily be enough to spark an industrial recall, you lost your own argument and are trying to deflect onto something wholly spurious.

Everyone is going to die, this we know.

Five year olds shouldn't typically be torn to bits because an angry teenager has had a bad day.
If you're too lazy, unimaginative or embarassed to put forward any suggestions thats fine - it doesn't mean there aren't any solutions.

Oh, one last chart:

Nassau County is where I grew up (I live on the border now). Suffolk County is the other county on Long Island. I have a lot to fear

There aren't any real solutions. You can piss out whatever imaginative solution you want. None of them will work. The crime was committed by a white suburban middle class young adult. He's the kind of guy that the hoops you would build for responsible gun ownership would be designed to let through because he's 'one of the good guys'. Don't lie and say otherwise either. What happened yesterday was a tragedy, there is no denying that, but kneejerk reactions to it won't solve anything. There will be more crimes like this no matter what solutions you come up with. It's inevitable. So why bother?

Murder rate per capita. I dunno, poorly labeled on wiki.

He was unemployed, had mental/social problems and had access to a large collection of excessively dangerous weapons - as seems to have been the case with quite a few recent spree shooters.

I can think of some simple steps straight off the bat.

Ah, so if it only affects poor people you don't give a shit?

No, he killed his mother, took her weapons and her car and drove to a different state to commit mass murder. Do you really think that is a normal that needs to be corrected? No.

Plenty of poor people in those counties, they just don't kill each other.

Jay doesn't care about gun violence. Black people don't count as people.

Macbeth wrote:

Bullshit a good chunk of those deaths are children and innocent people. At least once a week an innocent child gets killed in a NYC shooting by accident. People don't care because it doesn't happen in Manhattan but instead in Harlem. Take 'my father abandoned me' Jay for instance. When Drunkface asked him about all the gun violence among blacks he pretty much wrote it off because "I don't go into their neighborhoods and they don't come into mine". And if your argument relies on the concentration of violence then I will point you to the fact that a few months back 50 people were shot in one weekend in Chicago. Neverheard about that on CNN. But when a bunch of college kids get shot, or a bunch of people going to see Batman, or kids in school suddenly everyone freaks out about how terrible gun violence is because suddenly the whole "it could have been me yikes " kicks in. No one really gives a shit about gun deaths they just care about themselves. If mass murders stopped but the rate of inner city violence tripled no one would complain about gun violence.

Oh yeah? I do? Well, statistically it's way more likely than white people shooting each other. Just like it's way more likely for a black person to end up in jail as a percentage of racial demographics. I didn't make the world, I just live in it. It's just as much a tragedy when black people kill each other, my comments yesterday were simply based on the news coverage. Something like the massacre will get way more airplay than black on black violence, just because it's so much less common.

I grew up here:
As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 26,622 people, 9,461 households, and 6,651 families residing in the city. The population density was 4,006.0 people per square mile (1,545.7/km²). There were 9,734 housing units at an average density of 1,464.7 per square mile (565.2/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 60.28% White, 26.40% African American, 0.29% Native American, 4.11% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 5.72% from other races, and 23.15% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 20.0% of the population.
We had super wealthy people living in coastal mansions, and the super poor living in government housing projects all in the same town. There was a murder in the town a few years ago where a white guy killed his mother and was driving around with her head in his trunk. Other than that, nothing. Never heard any gunshots. The major bullshit in this country is very localized to a few urban hellholes namely Detroit, Baltimore and Washington DC. Parts of Chicago are bad too. The rest of us don't really have any problems so we look at you foreigners like you're batshit retarded when you suggest we change our way of life.

Odd tidbits:
A .223 round out of an AR-15 will actually penetrate fewer layers of drywall than most pistols (9x19, .40, .45, etc).  The bullet from the .223 tends to yaw sooner and/or break apart and fails to penetrate as well.

#1 Buck will penetrate about 6 layers of drywall, so yes, you do have to worry about what is beyond the wall, in home defense scenarios.

AR-15s are actually pretty decent for hunting things like pigs and coyotes.  They are also usually the top performers in the 1000yd service rifle competitions (generally beating out the M1 Garands and M1As).  There are quite a few AR-15s set up as target guns.  For general plinking, it's a good choice because .223 is cheap for a center-fire round. For home defense, I generally wouldn't chose one, due to my home having a lot of tight corners and short distances and the idea that if any details were odd, the DA might try to use my selection of a scary looking rifle against me.  For someone on a farm, where the DA won't try to demonize you for picking a scary rifle, it might be a better choice.

Most of the US has a relatively low crime rate.  There are some particular high-crime areas, like inner cities and some poorer suburbs. Crime there only makes national headlines when there is a surge (like Chicago last year).  Most media attention will focus on the "unexpected" situations where gang or drug involvement isn't a factor (like most mass shootings).

For the safe crowd.  Every family gets one.  State issued.  More guns?  State issues a larger one.

Retool the bureaucracy.  I've all ready updated their seal.  For free.

I have thick plaster walls in my apartment so I'm not worried about buck penetrating through it. A .223 probably wouldn't penetrate either, but I simply like the spread of a shotgun for home defense. I just never really liked the M-16. It's accurate as hell, and the recoil is negligible, but it always just felt flimsy to me. I opted to carry the M-249 instead, even though it meant an extra 40 lbs of weight with the ammo and spare barrel etc. Still fired the .223 round, but the rate of fire made up for it. god forbid but if I'm going to be in a situation where I need to put someone down, I want them to stay down. Home defense situations completely negate the purpose of the AR-15 platform, which is accurate firing out to 300 meters or so. It's simply not a good weapon in close quarters.

Birdshot is actually optimal for home defense.  Doesn't over penetrate and still lethal.

(for all of the dumbasses about to say stupid things, put a full choke on and shoot something at 10 yards.  See what happens.)

Jay, your reasons for carrying the M-249 are the same reasons I carried a M-60 for years.

MOUT training with my M-60.. 'Overwatch?! Fuck that.. I'm coming in!'

When you're over six foot tall, maneuvering a M-60 indoors isn't too difficult.
