So, it sounds like there may be a new overseer of media in the UK.  What do you think?  Is this a major blow to freedom, needed regulation, or something of minor importance?

Probably not.

I don't know, a free and fearless press is a cornerstone of democracy, I've seen it in action and its critically important to shine a light into the dark recesses of govt - it really is the only thing which keeps them honest.

But then over-powerful press barons have used it for their own ends and ruined it.

Currently the media quite literally "make shit up" ruin peoples lives and then print a small apology on page 23 and shrug it off.

It needs to change, it wont change if there is no way of enforcing anything.

Basically what we need is somebody to beat up the press when they get out of line, like the office of fair trading does in the market place. We dont want or need every article to be checked and censored just a way to stop the press taking the piss.

That would pretty much kill the free speech part of free speech.
