Ah the Pride of our nation.
I think this ranks just above throwing puppies off of cliffs, and below peeing on dead combatants.
Personally I'm sick of this. I am tired of the pedestal our culture puts people in the military on. In the last 70 years our military hasn't done anything else than hold an empire together. For a few decades before WW2 the military was building and protecting our fledgling empire.
I refuse to be part of this culture of reverence. I will not donate to veterans. I will not attend their parades. I will not visit their monuments. I will not vote to increase their benefits. I am not going to listen to their stories. I am not going to put little yellow ribbon magnets on my car. I am not going to treat them with anymore respect I do anyone else.
I'm not saying all people in the U.S. military are violent, or come from low socioeconomic backgrounds and had nothing else better to do with their lives, but the majority of them are. I would say 50% are needlessly violent and 95% of them needed a paycheck. A ton of people I went to high school and college with joined or are in the process of joining the military and I can't think of a single one who is going into it rather than starting a lucrative career. The current military is just a big jobs program.
