BF2S Forums [PlanetSide 2] Oh man.

i dropped my render distance down to 750 (rather than 9999999). framerates still aren't great but they're playable now

Once you start to understand everything and get your bearings, it becomes insanely enjoyable.  Closest I've seen any game come to bf1942/bf2

Gunplay seems to suck and I see no "endgame".

I think this will be my Go-to game when I've nothing else to play. It's enjoyable, but I don't wanna burn myself out on it.

Also, the whole "Shared draw distance" is annoying.

My first several hours were spent just running around and trying to find a role. I think once you find something you like, you'll definitely get into the game more. It was a secondary go-to game for a while for me too.

I think Planetside 2 is a case where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. I'm not a big fan of the shooting. I'm not a fan of the flying (awkward cross between helicopters and jets). There isn't really one thing that stands out as amazing. But the way it all comes together is nice. It's nice to have a big battlefield and large-scale strategies to employ, figuring out where to move next, what resources to cut off from the enemy, etc.

I'm finally getting real into the game with Liberator runs. Started off just me and a buddy, but grew to a whole platoon of people working together. Got a squad on the ground capturing a point. Got a squad in the air providing backup, multiple Liberators and some Reaver escorts to deal with any Mosquitos and Scythes. It's pretty awesome to see that kind of teamwork again. Fuck Battlefield and it's 4-man no-Voip squad bullshit.

One of the planetside devs wrote this blog post about their plans on expanding the game and keeping it going for at least a decade.  There's some cool stuff in here tbh.

Finally got the bait and hook that was cert gain out of my mouth and realized how blindingly boring the game is right now. I'm bored of only being able to repair things in big battles because my framerate is at most 13fps. I'm bored of only being able to heal people in big battles because my framerate is at most 13fps. I'm bored of stomping people in jets and bombers because it's way too easy (at least I get more than 13fps). I'm bored of easily capping empty bases with the zerg or my squad. I'm bored of standing at a point for 10 so the slow capture will be slightly less slow. I'm bored of getting pushed back to the warpgate by a faction with two thirds of the continent population.

Will come back when I finally upgrade my computer. Until then, plenty of other shit to play.

1) How do the purchasable items and weapons affect the game?

2) Can you pay to win with cash?
Are there overpowered players running around, dominating you?

3) Can you gain purchasable stuff by simply playing and accumulating XP (at a lower rate), or are the good things separated to cash purchases?
I really like that in TF2 you can get all game-affecting weapons by just playing, as opposed to practically all other F2P games.

Other than that, the game reminds me a lot of Unreal 2's multiplayer and UT2004, which both were also rather simplistic in regards of gunplay and vehicle behavior, but quite entertaining nevertheless.

My biggest bitch about this game is that all your progress/etc is contained on one server. I hope they change that
