I'll be back on creatine again shortly. Hopefully it will help me break this plateau. I've lowered some of lifts (especially squats) to a more manageable level before i took it last time and it helped met get past my previous max (except for squats).
Right now i do 3x10 102,5kg on squats as oppossed to my pre-injury max of 110kg. My bench and deadlift have prgressed though and i hope the creatine will once again give me a boost to get deadlift up to 130+ and bench press to 70+

I'm all for rep ranges these days. What I will do with, say, bench press, is work up to 9 or 10 reps, then up the weight and go for 6 reps. Next workout aim for 7, one after that 8, etc. Maybe something like this might help you out of a plateau?

With deadlifts I think I will keep it in the 6-8 range. Squats I'm working on getting them to 10-12, all other lifts around 6-10. I'm still getting a feel for it for the different exercises, but for the past 6 months I've been going 6-8 then upping weight with success. Helps with a spotter (PT) and he always pushes me to go up in weight even if it means a couple forced reps to make the 6 minimum. Once I get to 8 on my own he'll usually force rep to 10 and next workout we go up in weight. By myself I will get to 9-10 before going up in weight for safety's sake.

i always do 3x10, but i know that doing pyramiding sets can help, i simply don't like doing it on all lifts except deadlifts because i always tend to drop back to much once i stop pyramiding.
Deadlifts i always pyramid at 5 > 3 > 1. It's low rep, i know, but to me deadlifts really is a feat of strength and i enjoy doing them high weight low reps and just build it up to a massive 1 rep. Right now I do the last rep at 120-122.5 (depends on the day). Highest I've done is 125, but had to drop a bit because due to uni my days aren't as filled with leisure and relaxtion any more, so I'm no longer 100% rested when i lift.
I do hope to work up to a final rep of 130, and who know, I might hit 140 some day.

You should reverse pyramid, it makes more sense. Why lift your heaviest at a final set, when you've expended the most energy? Warm up to your top set and then reduce the weight for the second working set, higher reps, do the same for the third set (reduce weight, increase reps).

Pyramid Sets vs Reverse Pyramid Training vs Straight Sets

I will. Then I will post my huge neck here to prove it and get your approval. Tosspot reminded me of a word I heard yesterday for situations but I can't remember what it is.

Just came back from the gym. Man some people have no idea what they're doing. One guy was doing squats with his heels raised with small 1.25kg plates. He's just asking for a developing spinal injury that could permanently affect his ability to do the exercise in coming years. He then went on to do jumping squats. Another woman on the machines and clearly going through the motions by the way she was looking around and barely putting any effort in. /rant

The plates under the heels is because of poor ankle mobility usually caused by a injury to the achillies.  They can't even do a half squat without the plates, the next time you see this guy ask him (nicely!) to do a squat without the plates and he'll prob stop 1/3 way down.  He needs to increase the depth of his squat with patience and practice.

also weightlifting shoes have a elevated heel....

I think it's bad form. I've been reading Beyond Brawn and the author has stated that decades ago he read to do squats with heels raised on a board, which has led him to having permanent spinal issues. I'm no physio so I could be wrong but surely he should be stretching to solve any muscular or tendon problems?

Jumping with a barbell also seems a bit odd to me. If he's looking for explosiveness shouldn't he just be doing power cleans instead of jumping with a barbell that has one 5kg plate either side??

I also saw a PT supervise someone doing sets of deadlifts with a rounded back the entire time. That guy is surely going to have problems when he takes the weight up to a certain point.

it is bad form, but not everyone is blessed with the ability to do a clean squat.  For those that can't they need all the help they can get and those plates are part of the rehabilitation process. Unless this guy is continuously using the plates over an extended period of time, then have a word with him.  Squats/dead-lifts are best completed with flat soled shoes with no cushioning or ideally barefoot if you can get away with it.  Those weight lifting shoes are for those athletes that specialise in the clean/jerk and need all the support they can get.  The average guy doesnt need them.  Jumping barbell squats are dumb, you're doing to do damage to the rear neck area (dependent on the weight) its also why you shouldn't do the lat pull down behind you neck.  Stair jumps are much better alternative, the higher you jump the better.

lastly that PT needs to be shot.

Yeah see he was squatting deep to get enough push for the jump which leads me to believe he has no injury and is actually doing the wrong thing entirely. But I do see your point that in some cases it is a useful tool for rehabilitation, though I don't think he was doing it for this purpose in this instance.

And I just watched that PT watch him deadlift with a curved back and say "good, keep going". Un-fucking-believable.

Have had to go lower weight higher volume on chest...tweaked my shoulder about a week ago and can't seem to put any heavy weight on it. Only hurts with heavy weight; no range of motion limits or pain. I'm thinking it's just a strain.

It's tough to get a decent upper body workout in when you've got a shoulder that won't take a lot of weight. You learn pretty quickly how much you use those muscles in other lifts.

Shoulder injuries are the worst. You basically can't perform any (or close to) upper body work.

Yeah. Plus it's the shoulder I had worked on last year. Just glad it's not anything serious.

I guess long as it's muscular and not the joint itself it's relatively low risk and quick healing. Doesn't make it less frustrating but hopefully isn't a long lasting injury.
