How does anybody not do that?  It's hard as shit and the kind of guy who would do it obviously wouldn't have nearly any other options at one time

I'm definitely keeping my options open. I was just a little surprised to have her wanting to hang out after saying she was all unsure of herself and afraid of a serious relationship bla bla bla.

For a lot of things like cigarettes and alcohol(depending on state) they are, but not everything.  A death tax is still fucked up though

I think you can if you take a loss, yeah. I know businesses do it.

Do you equate gambling with investment or something?

He means income =/= winnings.

ie. if winnings are counted as a taxable income then by similar logic the losses incurred to collect those winnings should be deducted against them.

Well, I learned something new:
You may deduct gambling losses only if you itemize deductions. However, the amount of losses you deduct may not be more than the amount of gambling income reported on your return. Claim your gambling losses on Form 1040, Schedule A, as a miscellaneous itemized deduction that is not subject to the 2% limit.
http://www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc419.html

Apparently you can deduct gambling losses. Interesting. Dunno how you would itemize losses at a table game or a slot machine though.

Well, well, well. Interesting. Casinos don't give out receipts though, do they?

I guess for putting a bet on a sports game, you would have the ticket as proof.

Yeah, except most forms of gambling are illegal It's illegal to be a bookie so I imagine it would be rather difficult to get a receipt from them.

The only thing I imagine you'd be able to write-off are bets at the racetrack or on the lottery, both of which are state monopolies
