Emo music is worse than rap, IMO. A bunch of kids whining about problems that really aren't that bad, or lyrics that don't make any sense. I hate how it's all these middle-class white kids whining. You wanna whine? Be a kid born into poverty, or a black kid that gets beat up by the white cops, or something real. Not, "I think I'll kill myself, my parents won't buy me an iPod!"

Okay, even though I sound like I listen to Shihad and nothing else, here's some off my list.

Shihad
Foo Fighters
Dimmer
The Living End
Muse
SOAD

I describe my chosen genre as hard rock but I listen to metal and anything that takes me fancy. Those are just some of the bands that I 'collect' the music from.
Most of my favourite artists are actually New Zealand artists, most of them will be included in the thread I'm in the middle of making.

Basically lots of Rock, Classic Rock, and alternative.  I hate rap, country, and all the processed crap that the music industry churns out today.

rap pwns you.
Because we're talking about people with musical talent, ability and skill, not just a natural knack for a quick mind and a semi-good voice, and enough money to hire someone who can work Fruity Loops.
arguably, few of the bands mentioned have an excess of any of those qualities.
Yes, I agree with that. If I made the thread I would've specified that too, including the majority of punk rock as non-music. Even System of a Down (although I do enjoy some of their music) is pretty low on the skill level, while it is fact it may piss off a lot of people. In my personal perspective, music has turned from an art form to whatever makes people feel good. I listen to music not because it 'sounds good' but because I admire the technique and ability of the musician(s). Yes, I'm digressing but my point is, yes, many of the bands mentioned here don't have an excess of those qualities, and I don't particularly like those bands, but there are a number here which truly are... 'good'.

No particular order

Iron Maiden (Duellists, best guitar solo, evar!)
Rush
KISS
Queensrÿche
Anthrax (can't believe this hasn't come up?)
Badlands
Slayer
Pantera
Dio
Testament
Judas Priest
Megadeth
Tesla
Van Halen (Dave and Sammy, liked em both)
Dangerous Toys (most probably won't know who these guys are, Texas band from Austin)
Metal Church

I've seen every one of these bands live... except Rush, one of my all time favorites. Pantera I'd seen soooo many times, just about every club gig they did from Power Metal, up to CFH. Good times!

Although I love Weezer and they're almost punk. Well, their new album is lame but the stuff before was great. Other than that I say rock the fuck on!

65dos is awesome. I'm surprised to see somebody else likes them.

I could go on forever listing bands I like but I'll just say my five all-time favorites: Metallica, Pantera, Deftones, Isis, and Darkest Hour.

But right now I'm listening to a lot of Unearthly Trance, The Crown, and Yob.
