Because we're talking about people with musical talent, ability and skill, not just a natural knack for a quick mind and a semi-good voice, and enough money to hire someone who can work Fruity Loops.

arguably, few of the bands mentioned have an excess of any of those qualities.

Emo music is worse than rap, IMO. A bunch of kids whining about problems that really aren't that bad, or lyrics that don't make any sense. I hate how it's all these middle-class white kids whining. You wanna whine? Be a kid born into poverty, or a black kid that gets beat up by the white cops, or something real. Not, "I think I'll kill myself, my parents won't buy me an iPod!"
