Went and booked a time for 20 000 km service, almost fell from my chair when I heard the price: € 407,00

400 monies for an oil change, brake fluid change and greasing the hinges? Oh, and resetting the service indicator. Well, fuck.

I do alternate services myself, I used to do all of them - 10 years motoring and the only service costs were parts and oil
Then again the first years depreciation on my Subaru = 10 years depreciation on my Volvos.

I don't want to do any services on my own on a two year old car because the value drops too fast if the service book doesn't have dealership service stamps. If it were a 6-10 year old car, I'd probably go with a much cheaper solution. Then again, it's been a good while since I last did any service or repairs on a car, so I'm not that sure if I'm able to do anything anymore.

€407 on a goddamn Opel service though, what a ripoff.

I know, right?

Oh yeah, the pollen filter too. They'll change the pollen filter. Whoop. I got the price down to the 407,00€ because I told them not to change my wiper blades or add washing fluid. Prolly would've been something like 500 Yuros had I let them do it.

Is this a dealership doing the work or something?

Yep. Once the car turns 5, I'll start using off-brand service companies.

Well, Opel is financially stricken at the moment.
They need to get their money from somewhere.

Well it is GM, so..

The prices are about the same for any car in that age/price-range. Be it Nissan, Opel, VW, Mazda or Alfa. Although the Alfas tend to have *cough* "additional costs" involved as well. The 2-year service is for some odd reason really expensive.

I think the new PCV assembly fixed the vacuum leak.  It doesn't stall when turning the wheel in gear anymore and the idle is just about as good as it was when I got the car now if not better because of the new coil packs.  The new PCV stuff is all sealed really tight together, I could definitely see how air would escape when that rubber part is all worn out like it was.

Anyone any good at finding cars to buy?
Need something in good condition that I can drive from the UK to Rome to use in Italy for as long as I'm there. Don't particularly have a preference, but it needs to be in good mechanical condition, things like AC and a decent engine (depending on size of car..) are high on the list, mod cons would be nice.
Body damage is not an issue, almost a plus as it is bound to get pranged in Rome, and might make it cheaper to buy.

Have no idea where to start with all the choice. Was thinking originally something like a Mark IV golf or a Focus of similar age, but something smaller like a Fiesta or Clio would be fine if they came cheaper and were better value.

Looking to spend in the region of £1500-£3000.

Wouldnt a RHD car be pretty crap in Rome's traffic?

I can't buy an Italian car without residency, and that's a ballache. This is the simplest solution.

LHD drive cars will be available secondhand in the UK.
Don't forget headlight deflectors, get the right insurance, any other tedious stuff.

I'd love to do a root-type super charger and a small 50 trim turbo on my honda, even at 10 psi each it'd be insane.

Any idea what I would be able to get for each of the following?

x4 Honda 14" rims, new in packaging, paid about $310 back in January.

x4 Michelin X-ICE 185/70R14 winter tires with after market rims, driven for one winter season back and forth to work (about 30km each way).

Trying to sell them but have no clue what the depreciation value is on tires/rims.

Probably about 250 for the wheels, 300 for the tires on rims (if in good shape). Make sure you know the bolt pattern, as they may be interchangeable with other cars. Good luck!
