So? This would force people to be better ranchers.
No, it would not. Are you a rancher? Have you ever done the job?Superior Mind wrote:

Bottom line =/= better rancher
Then what makes a better rancher SM? A guy that sells a product that people want while taking minimal risks, or a guy that sells them a product that is inferior while taking more risks? Old meat is tougher meat. Grass fed meat is not as juicy as corn finished meat. So you prefer that people pay twice as much for older, less juicy cuts of meat? Luckily, there's been a market for such meat created over the past 5-10 years by Whole Foods shoppers. If only Whole Foods shoppers would leave the marketing at the door instead of trying to indoctrinate everyone else to justify their spending...Superior Mind wrote:

k
The problem is with the consumer wanting as much fat as possible.
Fuck Israel
All this talk of beef is making me crave a steak.
Not sure who those consumers are; never met anyone here who looks for as much fat as possible (except Jay apparently)Dilbert_X wrote:

Not as much fat as possible, but a good amount of marbling is essential to a quality cut of beef.jsnipy wrote:

USDA Prime Steaks.
USDA Prime is the superior grade with amazing tenderness, juiciness, flavor and fine texture. It has the highest degree of fat marbling and is derived from the younger beef. That's why Prime is generally featured at the most exclusive upscale steakhouse restaurants.
USDA Choice Steaks.
USDA Choice is the second highest graded beef. It has less fat marbling than Prime. Choice is a quality steak particularly if it is a cut that is derived from the loin and rib areas of the beef such as a tenderloin filet or rib steak. Generally USDA Choice will be less tender, juicy and flavorful with a slightly more coarse texture versus Prime.
USDA Select Steaks.
USDA Select is generally the lowest grade of steak you will find at a supermarket or restaurant. You will find it tougher, less juicy and less flavorful since it is leaner that Prime and Choice with very little marbling. The texture of Select is generally more coarse. Therefore, Select is not nearly as enjoyable or desirable.

Exactly - this notion that steak is the ultimate meal, is just lol.
On the topic of steak you can have a fat animal raised normally. They use corn to fatten it faster, making the animal unhealthy; making unhealthy meat.

Who cares if it's unhealthy for the past two weeks? It's going to be cut up into small portions. I don't have a problem with foie gras either. It's dinner.

Also, I have no problem with people making decisions for their own bodies. If they want to eat all organic grass fed beef or be a raw food vegetarian, more power to them. I only take issue with it when they try to force their lifestyle choices on others, or if they mislead others in order to make them make poor decisions a la Whole Foods.

Not sure how to educate you or if you care - tons of material out there granted there is subjectivity to swim through. It's your life
Like the current anti-gluten and anti-lactose fads when 95% of people don't have celiacs disease or (in the case of the people buying into the fads) lactose intolerance.

You say you care when people force their lifestyle choices in you. How do you think the cows feel?
Cows aren't people. They're food. The only reason they exist is to produce meat for the dinner table.Superior Mind wrote:

Hahahaha
Ok
Ok
You disagree? Are there herds of wild cows roaming somewhere? They are the most selectively bred species on the planet. For tens of thousands of years, humans have turned them into milk and steak producing machines.

it's not really needed, it's more there for you to recognize it as a quality steak. just like a rabbit paw is left for you to know it's not a cat .

yeah basically. i haven't looked closely at the study, but their deep surprise at the fact that old rats tend to die and their bizarrely defensive reaction lessens their credibility in my view. toughen up, princesses, those comments are jellybabies compared to what you'll get from anonymous peer review.Superior Mind wrote:
