The scientist reached out to publish information about Iranian nuclear systems getting struck by yet another cyber attack.

He wrote:

I am writing you to inform you that our nuclear program has once again been compromised and attacked by a new worm with exploits which have shut down our automation network at Natanz and another facility Fordo near Qom.

According to the email our cyber experts sent to our teams, they believe a hacker tool Metasploit was used. The hackers had access to our VPN. The automation network and Siemens hardware were attacked and shut down. I only know very little about these cyber issues as I am scientist not a computer expert.

There was also some music playing randomly on several of the workstations during the middle of the night with the volume maxed out. I believe it was playing 'Thunderstruck' by AC/DC.

I'm not sure what to think about this. We can't confirm any of the details. However, we can confirm that the researcher was sending and receiving emails from within the AEOI.

Google Fiber is here.

$70 for a giggitybit, and my neighborhood is 30 interested parties away from being one of the initial "Fiberhoods" - shouldn't be hard with several hundred students here. Which is all awesome, but I was also surprised to see that they are offering:

Up to 5Mbps download, 1Mbps upload speed
No data caps
Free service guaranteed for at least 7 years
Includes Network Box
$300 construction fee (one time), or 12 monthly payments of $25, + taxes and fees

If you actually used it for 7 years that would be less than $5/month, which is pretty awesome in its own right.

For every person I know who has 20+mbps, there is also one who is still stuck at 2002-era speeds (at much higher prices than they really should be) simply because there aren't better options where they live. Hopefully this program can actually get the other big players in the industry to reevaluate pricing/availability of their products (although I know they will wait as long as possible, and that nothing will change unless this project is a great success and Google plans to expand nationwide to cities big and small...)

So does this mean you live in or near Kansas City?

And only 5 Mbps down, 1 up?  That doesn't sound that fast at all for fiber, especially the fiber they were talking about

Edit: Wait a minute, that's for the free for 7 years internet, it's not great speed but you can't argue with free broadband guaranteed for the better portion of a decade after installation costs.

Here's the official page that has information on all of it:

...yes.

The 5mbit package was for "free" if you pay for installation. $70 gets you a gigabit.

I don't know why I need it (...I don't...), but I want it. I really dislike Time Warner, Comcast and AT&T, so supporting Google seems a lot better in that regard. The main downside is that I will want cable for hockey season, which is $50 more. I currently pay ~$70 for internet + cable, so for the same price I can massively upgrade my bandwidth, but lose TV (i.e. - sports).

Their prices are very competitive in theory, but it's not as easy a decision as I had thought it would be. A few years ago this would be a no-brainer, as I could find free streaming hockey for pretty much any game, but it's been a lot more difficult for the last 2 seasons. /fwp

You could use an antenna possibly, Monoprice has a bunch of them for cheap and people actually seem to like them:

Not sure what channel you're trying to pick hockey up on though, I'm guessing ESPN would not be a readily available antenna channel because they're such corporate dicklickers

Been having issues with Chrome suddenly, starting from last night. No sound in YouTube videos and they pause randomly. Work just fine on the other browser I have installed... internet explorer.

Reinstalled flash player (just to be sure). Nope. Reinstalled shockwave. Nope. Reinstalled Chrome. Nope. Haven't installed anything new recently either. So frustrating.

Ok, videos don't pause randomly. They pause every 11 seconds.

Do you have a shitload of tabs open at the same time?  Firefox used to do that for me until they changed it so saved tabs load on an as-needed basis rather than all at once so the memory usage got a LOT better.  They say Chrome doesn't manage a large amount of tabs as well as Firefox does.

Even if it's just one tab, it's still fucked up. Chrome is working fine on my work computer though.

Chrome had an update last night, so I wonder if some of my extensions are fucking with it now. Gonna try to remove all them and try again.

E: Aaaand it didn't work. But apparently there are many others having issues? Computer at work is still fine though. Weird. and fucking annoying.

Firefox has been fuckin me over too.

Watching embedded youtube vids works fine but I try to open those in their own youtube sight and flash crashes and takes at least 60 seconds before the browser unfreezes. FF 14.0.1. Reloaded flash but nothing. Was happening on work and home comps. Seems better than 2 weeks ago but still pretty buggy.

yeah and also if you open a new tab, on the lower right there's a little pop-up menu with your last tabs.

looks like my problem is fixed. from chrome help forum thingy: Type: "chrome:plugins" in your address bar, + details on Flash, disable the first one "Shockwave Flash 11.3 r31"

A doctor at the hospital I work at bought a new Macbook Pro w/ Retina Display (i-7, 16 GB RAM, 750 SSD)

I'll admit, the first time I turned it on it looked very pretty but it isn't really worth the price (while it's still this expensive). I suppose if you do very very fine visual editing of some sort then maybe but otherwise the novelty wears off and you're out several thousand dollars. It's like when you watch an old movie in black and white, the initial feeling is 'woah that's crazy' but after a few minutes you get accustomed to it and don't notice a difference unless your actively comparing it to something else.
Like flowers - nice to look at but in reality are completely useless.

I'm pretty anti-apple so definitely take what I say with less than a grain of salt

At first, I felt the same way.  But after trying to build a similar Windows spec, price for the new Macbook Pro with Retina Display isn't that much more, battery design aside.  If not for a coupon, plus replacing the standard drive with SSD, my high-end 1080p Dell XPS would onlly be a few hundred dollars cheaper.

You're right but the fact is that such Windows laptops are always easy to find with coupons making the actual retail price more of a technicality than anything else. For me, it's like buying a car: sure, the sticker price can be really high but with a bit of effort you can knock the original price down by a hefty margin.
