yet the trayvon martin thing is still in the news despite the whole racial issue in the case being put to rest a while ago.
i agree the media latches on to whatever situation/story/human interest issue is out there. But it's not treated like it never happened - names like Jonestown, Columbine, Ft Hood, VA Tech, Charles Whitman still resonate with most people these days, even if the media treats those events like a short time hooker

there are still those that mourn the murder of JFK

Yeah, I agree. Would likely take a 10-30 yard, low light, face shot, with tear-gas and innocent bystanders running interference. It's not a good set-up. Honestly, unless someone was an OUTSTANDING shot or sitting in the nearest corner section, the odds of safely making the shot are pretty low.Trotskygrad wrote:

Not sure if it was mentioned already, but apparently the theater doesn't allow CCW. So yeah, outlawing citizens carrying guns definitely prevents people from committing crimes with guns.
guy comes in, he's pretty obviously prepared for resistance (body armor, gas, helmet)
he's got a rifle, you've got a pistol.
You probably have to hit him in the face to get an incapacitating shot
low light conditions
is it likely?
I'm not saying it's impossible. (An AF security police airman made an 80+ yard headshot against an active shooter in 1994, with a 9mm pistol.) The theater situation is a tactical nightmare. For the majority of shooters, in the majority of seats, taking the shot would be extremely risky to bystanders with a low probability of success.
There are few "good" solutions to this one.
As such, most pro or anti concealed carry arguments are pretty much moot, IMO.

What's curious is how the hell this unemployed student could afford all of that weaponry and gear.
the atf let him get the guns so the obama administration would find the task of enacting stringent gun laws much more palatable by the american electorate. DB knows wassup

Except he was walking up and down the aisles randoms targeting a person here and a person there according to reports. Walking past people left and right and then randomly shooting another. CCW or not I ma shocked by this... The tear gas and general shocking nature of the attack had to be disorienting, but I really can't believe no one tackled the guy. If someone was armed they would have been able to practically walk right up behind the guy and pop him. I can't say what I would have done, and there are so many variables (like if I had my family with me, for example) it is impossible to predict... But damn. Just happened too quickly for anyone to process most likely...RAIMIUS wrote:
