I guaranteee none of you guys did these things. Installing patches isn't like installing a simple program. Expecially with EA; you have to take ALL precautions.

Cheers JNick. I hadn't realised that EA was that particular about everything before patching. I don't change the loc's etc but the shaders was an eye opener. Right, 1 hour til I'm home and can actually start flitting around with all this stuff and see if I can get my game to work... what are the odds of me sleeping at all today?

The sad thing is I actually like the sound of 1.3... I play sniper most of the time and I can't think of a more comical death than having a humvee thrown at you by god

The PC isn't the problem... trust me. Built it myself and it was top spec about 2 months ago. It's all nice and shiny... and purrs when you stroke it...

Ok folks, just thought I'd drop you all a line after my post about not posting if I fix it.

Re-start after patching did not work. HOWEVER a re-install, then a re-start, followed by a full patch, then a re-start and it's running better than ever. Connection time to account server is quick (presumeably because I had to re-activate my account), gameplay seems good. A little lag occasionally, but no more than before. My only two complaints following playing for about 2 hours this morning are as follows:

Yes the server browser is seriously fubar!

The only people playing on ANY servers when I was on were long time players. Oh how I miss the slightly dafter sniper breed who sit on top of hills thinking they're invisible. (My staple diet (Ok, so my stats aren't great, but hey it's fun))

The lack of squad hopping hasn't hurt me much as I'd only just started doing it before the patch came out, so I'm just happy as a clam. Get yourselves out there and fix your games so I can have some ducks to shoot at when I'm home from work

Thanks to anyone who helped me in this forum or the others.

I don't understand the problem of getting squashed with a jeep. Some commander tried to do it to me twice but i just ended up underneath the vehicle. (Yeah it was heavy jeeps being dropped not light buggys)

Anyone know what maps drops what type of vehicles? Would be helpful.

there is always such a negative response to the patches becasue only people with probelms voice there opinion. Im sure if everyone who had a flawless install of 1.3 or someone who actually likes 1.3 will not usually post it in a forum or make a thread about it. So to all of you who are having problems with the patch i really do feel sorry for you and hope you get it worked out. I can understand how frustrating it may be for your game not to function properly. For the people who are complaining about the patch all i have to say is give it a chance, real men dont complain they overcome.

I installed the full patch at the first attempt and it completed successfully. Rebooted before launching game.

First time I tried to connect to a BF2 map, crashed to desktop when I hit JOIN button. Switched to SF and joined a server no problem and played for a few minutes (picking up my new awards). Back to normal BF2, joined successfully this time.

I'm sure I read in another thread that the server browser can cause f'ups with the server that you are trying to join, which may be causing the crash to desktop issue.

I'm interested in the comment about deleting your account then retrieving it and also renewing the shaders to improve performance/connection speed. Can this be done at any time, i.e. not just before patching? Which folders do I need to delete?

To my knowledge you can delete and retrieve your profile at any time. From the other posts I've read around the bazars this should help your connection to the account server if it's been slow.

As for the shaders I'm presuming that's similar to re-setting your .exe files, loc's etc (help me out here guys, I'm by no means an expert) and therefore it's just returning the game to a default setting prior to patching. Hence it wouldn't help your game (Unless you've got it turned up way to high with a pants graphics card... re-setting it to medium/low would certainly help your game)

P.s. for those who are having a go at me for complaining about the patch, my frustration was more about the fact that I couldn't get it working in the 20 minutes before leaving for work and all I could see was a horde of hate mail for 1.3 scrolling up on the thread, without being able to go home and fix my own. Having both fixed AND played the game, it's running better than ever (server browser asside) and I couldn't be happier. Hope that clears up any confusion.

EA better come up with a fix cuz I can't even join servers now without getting "Your connection to the server has been lost". Before the patch it wasn't so bad but now it pops up every time after the loading. But I don't mind complaining to EA yet. The idiots always manage to screw up things that were ok with the new patches. For instance the server lists.

There is nothing wrong with the incremental patch from 1.2 to 1.3.

There are no problems with version 1.3

I ran the full patch and still had probs. I think the disconnect problems are on the server side because I was consistantly booted off when connecting to my usual Karkland map and several others I tried.

After trying a few servers I found a stable one and played without problems. Came back to Karkland a bit later and all was good.

I just have the browser issues no, not being able to sort by ping is a HUGE pain.

Actually Jo, most of the problems coming from people who have problems are from the incremental patch... The people who install full patch seem to work fine. It seems a slim population don't have a problem.
