I also hate the shoot on site, people, but I've been lucky most times and have figured out who's a dick and who isn't. Ended up spending hours with some foreign guys and a friend just looting and zombie killing. Good times.
So far only found 1 guy that didn't shoot on sight, he helped me fix a broken leg (again lol) and gave each other blood, sadly after 10 mins of looting together he lagged out.FFLink wrote:

Rocket has said he wants to make it more teamwork based and not so much wild west out there.
Yep going to look on official site I have seen a few groups just wanting to group up and survive together, seen quite a few that just want to group and murder people that spawn on the shore, wish we still started with a gun, hell an axe would do lol.

Spent 30 minutes running through the woods looking for deer stands, i found nothing. Is there certain areas i should be looking? Also, i have no map, compass, or watch. Pretty much just a flashlight and one bandage.

There are map apps for your phone as well, or you could set up a 2nd monitor if you've got it and just keep the map visible there. I usually set my laptop up next to me if I want to look at the map without constantly alt-tabbing out.
Right when you spawn, it should tell you what town you are in/near. Then it's sort of up to you to be able to use the map topography and landmarks to figure out where you're at (and where you're going.)
