Fair enough. I wasn't legitimising it, I was just wondering where you stood on the likes of Andy C who were involved and have been for a while in the awards.
tbh i don't even know why drumnbass wants/deserves its own awards - it's a bit self-aggrandizing, isn't it? seems a little bit insincere for dance music. house and techno both have far bigger and more varied and more successful histories and you don't see them getting together each year in a close-knit bunch to get pissed and give one another awards. i'd take the dnb awards with a big pinch of salt. the 'awards' hardly include the entire scene (as you've just seen), and really i think it's a bit of a pantomime. whatever next? post-dubstep awards? minimal techno awards? it seems dumb.

TBH the awards bit was like 30mins in a 10 hour night.
Pretty good excuse to get so many artists together for a massive night though. I think the awards were when i went outside to stop passive smoking weed

so it's a dumb idea, then. the uk bass / dubstep / house scene in london-bristol has about 3 nights a week, w/ at least one of them being a 10 hour club or warehouse affair. every single week. not a single award in sight. sounds like a silly pretext to a night out, imo.

i went to a school of the same class as eton and i'm not in a fraternity. nor are any of my friends. must be the american ivy campuses that attract the douchey sport-frat types. over here you normally go to a posh traditional english uni and have lots of formal dinners in tuxedos. if you're really in the top 1% you'll join the bullingdon club at oxford and will go around with future world-leaders smashing up restaurants and generally not giving a fuck because you're made, anyway. it's not really a 'frat culture'.
calling where you live a 'suite' makes me think you live in vegas or something.

Meh, enough drinking and socialising goes on at University that frats aren't needed. Whats the point of them, apart from to get around the 21 drinking age in the US?

I actually like that one
pretty impeccable production, really. kassem mosse is known for being incredibly intricate and tuned into all sorts of far-out details.

they aren't really necessary to circumvent the drinking age. they are more for easy friends, a party center, and connections.Dilbert_X wrote:

If you're outside the US fraternity system all you think of them is drinking at college and 'bros' trying rape girls. i.e. you watch TV and assume it's correct.
Yeah there's that stereotype and it wouldn't exist if it wasn't partially true but there's also the connections that last through life, brotherhood, friendships etc.

I wonder if the internet was as big as it was back in the 90s, if there'd be as many paint-by-numbers DnB remixes as there are Dubstep remixes. Need a dubstep remix? Throw snares on the 3's. Need a dnb remix? Throw the amen break on everything.
Fun times.
