i dunno what imdb says but as far as imdb-type western hollywood blockbusters are concerned, Citizen Kane is the best movie of all time. i hope the imdb list reflects that somehow. cause it's just a fact.

It does not. A lot of top 10 lists mention Citizen Kane, but it doesn't always take first place. It's usually surrounded by French cinema.Uzique wrote:

IMDB lists Shawshank at the #1 spot, while Citizen Kane takes #39 (O.o).
Rotten Tomatoes sticks Battleship Potemkin at #50, Citizen Kane at #14 and A Hard Day's Night at #1. I liked HDN, but...WAT.
The Brussels World's Fair sticks Battleship Potemkin at #1 and Citizen Kane at #9.
Citizen Kane sucked. Hated that movie. Blah. Then again, I was around 10 when I watched it last. LOL
Watch it again.
iirc imdb ratings arent really proper ranks and shouldnt be read as "x is better than y because its higher"unnamednewbie13 wrote:

i love french nouvelle vague as much as anyone else, as well as german expressionism and italian neo-realism, yada yada.unnamednewbie13 wrote:

russian cinema is great, too, though nearly impossible for the averageman to understand. the only common point is modernist montage.
that's why i'd say citizen kane is probably one of the best western films. at least most people can watch and understand it.

Agreed. For me, it's one of the most rewatchable "critically acclaimed" features out there. I stick it on every two years or so.Uzique wrote:

And then I watch Willow afterwards.

And Avatar.
Are people watching willow because of that new hbo show? Because I hadn't heard of it before that.
never heard of it

I didn't compare the films, I said its the same people who like them.Uzique wrote:
so i really have zero fucking idea how you are comparing them. why did you pull those two names together?
I wouldn't say they were special 'performances' by any stretch. Its not a great film, broke no new ground and is fairly cliched, I don't get the excitement.film with all-male cast putting in some of the best performances of their careers = 'schmaltzy'
Have never said anything approaching that either.dilbert thinks skrillex is the only acceptable sort of dance music
Nor that.his favourite form of cultural event and tourism is going to comic-cons
Why does everything have to be so extreme?

Sherlock Holmes 2 - 6/10
The Iron Lady
WTF/10
A movie about a senile old lady, hallucinating conversations with her dead husband.
Oh.. And a few fragmented montages vaguely implying the senile old woman was, much earlier in life, Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.
No historical context, no biography..
Just .. A wreck of a movie
First movie I've ever watched that made an English accent sound painful, shrill, and generally as if all the male actors just took a piping' hot tea kettle to the ass. Or, they're halfway done choking on a crumpet gone horribly awry.
