and people think belgians never get involved in the arms industry
Speaking of FN....
Damn! With a decent wear-in, and the mag disconnect gone, my new Browning Hi Power is much more accurate.
Okay, the 1350 rounds of practice the last couple of weeks may have helped my accuracy too.
On a whim, I started shooting at the 5" diameter spinner plate from 75 yards, instead of at 50 or 25.
Rather pleasantly surprised at the reassuring (and consistent) "ting" of hits.
Sadly, I'm having more fun with the pistol at 25-75 yards, and not nearly as much fun with the rifle at 650-1750.
Barrel is starting to go out on the 300 WSM.
(edit: by "going out", it's doing 1/2 MOA groups now, and I've run out of leade to chase while still magazine feeding)
Probably going to sell most of the parts (AICS 1.5 stock, etc), then build a 300 Norma on a Surgeon action.

I picked up a 24" .303 barrel blank to replace my 7.62 revolver barrel - which is mildly corroded but still shoots perfectly, despite being fire-lapped and bore polished to try to remove the pitting.
With luck 24" will be enough for me to get a 6" barrel for my revolver without turning all of it to swarf.
It will cost me about $700 for this stupid exercise, then I have to build a sight rib to go with it, with a dual-position foresight or rearsight for the precsion and duelling sections of the match, maybe I'll cannibalise an Aristocrat rib.
Not sure why I'm doing this, there must be a reason. Having a gun with a pitted barrel just doesn't work with my OCD I think.

If they can't remember the basics during qualification (trigger, breathing, sight picture, bone support, scan for targets, etc), then they sure as hell aren't going to remember the sequence of 40 targets...unnamednewbie13 wrote:

Should get rid of the stupid Trainfire pop-up targets, period.
They are absolute shit for marksmanship training (and there are many many ARDEC/AMCP/DoD studies saying as much, going back 20 years).
Last time I checked, USMC still did proper marksmanship training out to 500m, and not the Army pop-up trainfire bullshit.
USMC's general marksmanship standard is about on par with an Army "Squad Designated Marksman" ... and the problem is Army Trainfire popups, compared to proper marksmanship training in the USMC
Pop-ups don't train marksmanship, and they don't even reliably test a shooter.
Purely "hit" or "miss" with absolutely no feedback as to shot placement (high/low, left/right, jerked the trigger, breathing wrong, sight picture wrong, etc)
If you really want to shoot expert, you have to "game" the pop-ups;
- you have to shoot for headshots on all the near/mid-range targets, so you don't "miss" by sending a round through the 6" hole chewed in the center of the target by everyone else that shot at that target
- you have to count "one one thousand" before shooting on all targets, so they have time to properly register as being in the "up" position, otherwise you get scored a "miss" if the target still thinks it's not fully "up" when your bullet hits.
- you have to shoot the dirt at the base of the 50m (L&R) targets(and sometimes the 100m), and ricochet the round up into the target, otherwise the bullet is moving fast enough to punch through the target without registering the hit.
- you have to shoulder/head shoot the 250 and 300 targets, to get the hits to reliably register as well
Bullseye paper targets are much better for marksmanship training - tells a shooter how they're missing, and (with an experienced coach reading the student's bullseye targets) what fundamentals of marksmanship need to be worked on.
And bullseye targets aren't as much of a game. Bullseye targets: see the black target, hit the center of it.
Then do MOUT or "Hogan's Alley" or livefire for the practical applications of marksmanship in a tactical scenario.

Reading up a bit on Dieudonné Saive, an excellent firearms designer.
Finished the HiPower design, designed the FN-FAL, improved the M2 .50 cal design, etc.
Much of the work I'd previously (mis)attributed to JM Browning, was actually Saive's work.
Might as well put this here for the military guys.
Not gun related but can anyone tell me how a military unit is organised?
I'm writing up a fictional Army Regiment and I'm having a little trouble finding out how they break down.
Just for an example.
I've got 2nd Battalion and within it Mako Company. Would they each have a Headquarters, or is there only one overall HHC in the entire Regiment. Or, does it breakdown into Regiment HHC, Battalion HHC, Company HHC?
Been racking my brains for ages over this so i'll appreciate any help with it

Nice Loaded.
The only thing I changed on mine were the grips and a standard recoil spring plug instead of the guide rod.

Some ranges actually print out where you hit on the pop up targets. Unfortunatly they are too worried about time and they don't show that information to the soldiers which i think is bullshit.rdx-fx wrote:

Ordered four extended mag releases for the USPs.
Have a LEM kit too. Anybody want it? I'm sticking with DA/SA.

Use in other states that recognize the Arizona permit (I believe there are currently 35 states)
Skip background checks when purchasing or transferring firearms through dealers
Prove to others that you're not a prohibited possessor when conducting private transactions
Carry in establishments that serve alcohol (you cant carry if they have a 'No Guns' sign posted or you consume alcohol while on site)
I'm sure there are some more I'm missing

so what are your opinions on the "straight support arm stance" aka the "magpul stance", complete with thumb above the barrel
