well when you shoot a couple of times a year its fine but if you've bought your first firearm you're probably going to be putting a lot of rounds through it, and as you expand your collection it's only wise to get some ear defence for the hobby that requires it.FatherTed wrote:

Also, ear protection is definitely a must when shooting for a while; I definitely like my good hearing (helps with the whole DJing thing...)

I like pie.
Ear plugs are not enough, low frequency sound is conducted straight through the bone around your ear - you need ear defenders.

I drank one because my fiancee handed me one. I'm too busy with homework and I'm 0% Irish, so I don't give a fuck.bugz wrote:

Austria's energy production:Jay wrote:
You can not have more than a fraction of your energy sources coming from renewables. Please stop believing Green propaganda. ktnxbai.globefish23 wrote:
Yes, but you can produce energy with hydro, wind and solar power in a power plant without a carbon footprint.Jay wrote:
You do understand that every joule of energy has to come from somewhere right? Whether it's from burning gasoline in the engine, or coal in a power plant to fill a battery, the energy ultimately comes from carbon. If you ride on a train, you have a carbon footprint from the overhead electric lines. Just because it is out of your immediate vision does not mean it doesn't exist.
You can't do that directly in a car or a train.
Power plants are also more efficient with up 90% efficiency from cogeneration and use of both electricity and heating.
Also, renewable sources (like biomass) is also preferable to burning gas and oil.
We need the latter for much more than producing energy and driving cars.
Synthesizing plastics or producing chemical and pharmaceutical products from wood on the other hand is still near impossible.
So, the only logic step is to further increase sources like hydro and wind power as much as possible and wherever possible.
Not by ignoring it all and looking for ways to find and extract for oil and gas.
38.6% renewable energies (mostly biomass)
29.9% hydro power
17.2% natural gas
11.7% oil
2.6% coal
That's 68.5% of renewable energy.
Of the total energy consumption, which also includes oil and gas imports, it's 22,8% renewable energy consumed in Austria.
Hardly a fraction.
However, I totally agree with you that to be able to distribute renewable energy everywhere, you need many storage power plants, but more importantly, an extensive power grid.
And my blood is always boiling up when silly hippies are protesting against new hydro power plants or whenever a new high-voltage line is built somewhere.
Every moron wants their electricity to power their iPods and MacBooks, but then get scared by the required infrastructure to achieve the ideal goal of fully renewable energy production.
