but for that price you could haved upped the cpu to an x2 or an opty 165/170 and have gotten an x1900xt

oh wait: you got a monitor too? then it is a good price i guess (if it is a proper monitor)

it will still be prettey fast (though i prefer dual core for future proofing)

Wow, that seems expensive.  Did you get a 24" LCD with it or something?

*EDIT* looks like not.  maybe you should think about building it yourself next time and do it for 3/4 of what you just shelled out, at the most

You should incase you are fine with a shitty warranty. Sounds like Alienware since Dell doesnt use AMD processors in their gaming rigs.

Processor: AMD Athlon 64 3000+ with HyperTransport Technology Id personally get an x2 but granted some issues with dual core processors this is completely fine
Power Supply: 650 Watt ATX 2.0 Power Supply 600w is pretty unecessary for your set up, 500w would be fine.
Motherboard: nForce 4 SLI Chipset Motherboard PCI Express I am sure this is a default option
Memory: 1GB Dual Channel Low-Latency DDR PC-3200 at 400MHz - 2 x 512MB You're building this pc for bf2, you better get another gig of ram I run 4gigs
Graphics Processor: 256MB NVIDIA® GeForce 7600 GT If your budget can afford it I would spring for a 7800gtx they should be signifigantly cheaper now
Video Optimizer: Video Performance Optimizer WTFBBQLOLOMG<3
Sound Card: Integrated High-Performance 7.1 Surround Sound with S/PDIF and Coaxial Digital Outputs It may not seem important but even a low model sound blaster audigy 2 makes a world of difference in this game.

First: will it ruyn on high video settings? It will, but not good, especially with one gig of ram it needs more ram for texture memory, cards with 512mb of videoram do a lot better in this game than one with 256
Second: Should I spend an extra 50$ in 2gb of ram, is it that important.this is a question that answers itself
Third: Is sound that important, I can deal without it(or at least without good sound)The sound in the game is completely different with onboard hardware, and using an aftermarket sound card. /b]

Fourth: who do you guys think it is? [b]Alienware its amd no doubt, thats a hefty coin man. I self built and came out about the same in the end but my case is 250 dollars

the cpu is on the low side (very much). This Celeron is still based on the old socket type 478 vs. 775LGA. Also Via is the cheap make of the chipsets. Currently AMD/nvidia is the way to go for gamers. Dual core, while not necessary, is nice for futureproofing.

EDIT: also the case is mATX. Is the mobo mATX or standard ATX

then just get what you wrote in your original post and build it yourself. That should save some money. You should get 2 gigs of ram though, and possibly up the proc. to a 3200+ or 3500+ (i belive they are on sale now). Make sure that you get the ones build on the 90 nm process and not on the 130 nm.

Still the difference in performance makes up by far the higher price (at least im my oppinion).

i would really try to talk my parents into it (i mean if they were to buy the original system, why not the better preforming one at the same price).
I talked my dad into getting me a new system similar to the one i posted, just with an opty 170 and a x1900xt

You might want to show your parent the benchmarks on www.tomshardware.com

they are more or less the same performance wise (that what toms says). But both are last generation.

umm the computer you posted with the motherboard and celeron processor is pretty much craptastic.  let alone the Ultra power supply (read: piece of shit).  I would take a look at the post that max made in the page before that we decided on would be a good ~$1000 pc.

Yeah, the 1000$ pc is almost unbelievable too. I am getting that one and getting my friend to build it while I play BF2 on his computer. *evil laugh*

But thank you so much Max and Janus for the $1000 compiuter.
