We've probably used oem and aftermarket over the years. for most of our customers, especially the police agencies, it doesn't matter, they want the repair cheap and fast. if the parts houses are out of stock we go the dealers and vice versa. at least for most stuff._j5689_ wrote:
It is indeed the 4.6 on my Crown Vic. You should've spent the extra money to get a real Ford one, they say the Dorman ones hurt performance, especially on a model that already had a Performance Improved intake manifold(1999+ Explorers and Mustangs, 2001+ Crown Victorias/GMQs/Town Cars) because they're really just a slightly revised version of the Non-Performance Improved design. People on the forums actually notice it hurting the performance vs the old one.
Ta. As long as I'm driving about the city, I hardly doubt it will make any difference. What I'm worried about is, that it'll pop at 250km/h and I end up dead in a horrible accident._j5689_ wrote:
That doesn't look that urgent, I had an alignment problem that wore down my front-left tire's inner sidewall so badly you could see the kevlar weaving or whatever it is on the inside of the tire, and the tire was still going for another two months after we found out that happened, although it was leaking pretty badly and I had to keep refilling it frequently until it eventually just popped while I was driving. On yours though, I think you could go another few weeks like that if you needed to as long as it's not leaking, that doesn't look that deep at all
Yeah. And seeing as the new 3 series won't get a naturally aspirated straight 6, I'll drive it until it dies. Fucking turbos. M54B30 4 lifeFatherTed wrote:

Gotta love those 6s man. Jay's 523i, my dads 523i, and my mates 328i all have/had beautiful engines.max wrote:

Making an engine a whole lot more complicated and unreliable and needing maintenance work more often, just so you can get similar power and a worse feel and sound from a smaller displacement engine? It will save you a little fuel if you drive them slowly and carefully, but will drink more if you hammer them. But even if you do drive like a grandmother you won't save any money because the fuel saving are hardly worth it with the cost of repairing the damn things all the time. And you shouldn't drive short distances. And you should always cool them down before stopping. Fuck that.

They've come on a lot max, small displacement engines with small turbos are very economical. The turbo only kicks in when you boot it, to overtake a slower car, for instance. They're cleaner, in most cases now give higher power output, but I do agree with the noise problem. No finer noise than a naturally aspirated 6, v6, v8, v10 or v12. Even some 5 pots sound really good.max wrote:
