If it wasn't about making money they would impose a RF controlled governor on the car. i.e. drive past stop sign, transmitter on the sign automatically limits the speed of the car to the limit. But no, speed cameras are just another way for the state to collect revenue. They don't actually care about your safety, or the safety of those kids, that's secondary to $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$_j5689_ wrote:
To be fair, these ones only get you if you're going 12 over as far as I know, I just don't like having limits imposed on me indefinitely, it feels wrongRTHKI wrote:

The only speeding kill that anybody made in the last 5 years in this city was when a cop was doing 50 in a residential 25 during rush hour and killed some kid

The reaction would be amazing to watch Speed cameras here are usually placed in very busy intersections where there's a good chance you'll be trapped in the box by other idiot lost motorists. Or, they put them in places that can be classified as speed traps where the speed drops suddenly and dramatically. They're revenue generators that fly under the radar compared to a real tax increase. Politicians have learned to not touch tax rates as those are easily understood by the voter, so they nickel and dime us everywhere else. Speed cameras, excise taxes on cigs, alcohol, cable television, cell phones, you name it, it's taxed.PrivateVendetta wrote:

Speed cameras over here barely make money. A lot of councils don't turn a lot of them on because of it and my home town recently turned them all off publicly and put efforts into speed detection signs that tell you when you are speeding instead.
Just a thought... Are you SURE they are speed cameras?_j5689_ wrote:

It's the other way around over here, they put those up FIRST and then removed them and now a month later they put up cameras on both sidesPrivateVendetta wrote:

I'm positive, all the newspapers mention it as such and I doubt if they were infrared sensors that they would have the large flashbulbs on them that speed cameras have, lolHITNRUNXX wrote:

I ask because a BUNCH of people here in OKC got pissed off at the speed cameras being put up at every intersection... But turns out, they are not speed cameras, they are infrared sensors that control the lights instead of the sensors in the streets... They just look like cameras.

Same here, just checking. It was hilarious how many people were mad about it, and it didn't even exist._j5689_ wrote:

Not sure what yours look like if they're full-size roadside boxes, over here, the infrared sensors are mounted right on the the same post the traffic lights are mounted on and they look just like security cameras. Lights that are attached to overhanging power lines are being phased out everywhere in favor of putting in the new street-light posts that allow those to be mounted and of course they have that pedestrian button on them that does nothing as an added bonus.

Was quite fun. Got home at four. Now I'm poor so I had to go watch the nets instead of the knicks. Outrageous!Toilet Sex wrote:

I don't get people who like to give Uncle Sam loans. Adjust your deductions so you are always negative. And you if want that extra cash like the tax refund, just setup a secondary account that gets automatic transfers from another account.HITNRUNXX wrote:
Three other people that filed their taxes on the same day as me got their returns yesterday. Mine is scheduled for Tuesday... So much for buying my camera RIGHT NOW... I have to add a whole FOUR MORE DAYS to my 18 month wait.
