Restaurants I can understand, waiters/waitresses get paid minimum wage and are usually studying so they need the cash, and if they're really nice they've earned it. They didn't have to go out of their way like that for their job, so yeah they can get a few quid.

i think at the place i go to (Hair Cuttery) the stylists are like independent contractors or something. so they don't earn much from the company itself. but i could be wrong.
