I find that writing stream-of-consciousness while high produces some beautiful metaphors, but it makes it harder to stay on topic.

thats sad dood

i was doing my grocery shopping at 7:30 am a few days ago.. well i strolled into the medicines aisle for congestion stuff

in the aisle.. a couple looking for bathsalts - The couple so driven.. looking so hard on the shelves. luckily a worker stopped to help

where might they find bath salts? they ask (this is where i turn and check out their faces)
'hmm we stopped carrying those last year'
i chuckle but cannot help but think    were they there at that time of the day looking for a way to relax? they had no cart. sad face.
yeah Sure they want to soak in the tub.

i find that 99% of teenagers/young writers attempting stream-of-consciousness come across as pretentious, inept pricks

definitely the hardest form of writing. but cause it's 'so deep, man' of course all the stoner fucks think they can be james joyce

I've been writing much longer than I've been smoking.

Most of my better works were done sober. But like I said, ganja makes abstract associations in the mind go on overdrive.

good for you. sadly unless you're david foster wallace or an equally precocious talent, i doubt your stream of consciousness is any good. people just aren't good writers at 20-21. it's a maturity + experience thing. most young writing is just contrived experiments in technique and style. and all good writers look back on their early works with utter embarrassment. stream of consciousness is hard and surfing the buddha waves whilst high on mary j isn't quite the blakean 'divine inspiration' you take it to be.

and the thing is with your last point... nobody understands your abstract associations. you know why? cause you were fucking high on an individual planet thousands of miles away when you wrote them. so to everybody else is comes off as asinine, self-indulgent, introspective bullshit. which is what 99% of young-writing and especially stoner writing is.

You are completely right, but that doesn't change the validity of my statement. Should I have not referred to my own metaphors as beautiful? Was that too self-indulgent?

they're probably beautiful to yourself. i always find shit i write and think "damn that's good" becomes "damn that's embarrassing" 2 weeks later. perspective and even short-term distance adds a maturity to your own writing. writing whilst high or drunk is normally always a disaster. we can't all be bukowski.

That's definitely one of the hardest things about doing any kind of long term writing project. Every re-read makes me want to change everything/ abandon it.

i think confidence / fuck it attitude only really comes with age. as i said even the greatest authors cringe at their young stuff. dfw wrote his first novel as part of his finalist thesis at amherst and got it published and it caused a literary storm. if you mentioned it to him at a book signing later on in his career though he'd get embarrassed and would want to change the subject. says it all.

bath salts are evil and fucking dumb, there's no reason you'd do that crap other than out of sheer desperation

didn't you do mephedrone a while back though?
i did mephedrone when it was brand new and legal and pretty much as pure as it has ever been. if you think bath salts == mephedrone then you're one stupid motherfucker. and i stopped touching that stuff as soon as it was made illegal, and as soon as i knew it would start being cut with all sorts of shit. bath-salts are like 1 part 'get high' material to 9 parts 'holy shit poison yourself' poison.

a mate of mine killed his dad whilst on mephadrone a couple of months ago, it make the national newspapers if you remember it. he also stabbed his mum but that was an accident when he was going for his dad.

well he wasnt really a mate so much as kinda a friend i'd see maybe once or twice a month with other friends i was closer to

lol what the fuck

why would you even get that stuff when it's illegal? if you're going thru dealers you may as well get something worth the buck

i dont know, it was really popular back then here for whatever reason so i just kinda went along with it. its still quite popular up here, especially in the town over. i guess people that can't afford coke like to snort big fat white lines to feel big or whatever.

i saw 2 guys on one of those punch to get a highscore machines about 2 months ago that were clearly on it, and they were like men around 25-28.
