i mentioned chess because you were talking about the most intense "man versus man" experience, to which i replied that surely a mental competition is more 'intense' and involving than a physical punch-off. enter comment about chess. i think all the rest that you're inferring is your own neurosis writ large.

I understand both MMA and Chess well enough. I didn't name something I don't know in depth. You might as well named Monopoly as the most most intense mental competition since you probably know as much about that game as you do chess. I'm just saying I wouldn't make a big claim without actually knowing about the stuff I'm making a claim about.

well thats kind of unfair since its multiple sports, not just one. my point was the most pure sport, as in singular. out of the 5: long jump, javelin throw, and discus throw, foot race and wrestling id still say the foot race is the most 'pure'. wrestling is judgmental, discus and javelin involve tools and long jump is... well, who has ever cared about long jump?

Wrestling isn't judgmental in the slightest. The point system is very straightforward. 2 points for a takedown, 1 point for an escape, 2-3 points for exposure, etc. I think it is by far the 'fairest' of the sports as the weight classes keep the matches even.

Of course its judgemental. What constitutes a takedown, an escape, exposure? What is an illegal move? What if the judge misses a point or gives one when it wasnt deserved? Anything with judges is flawed, but thats obviously part of the game.

Theres nothing wrong with events being judged - some of the most interesting ones are. But when you think of the absolute most basic, pure, free from arbitrary judgement sport... wrestling isnt it.
