"It might seem hard to believe, but the lead platform for Battlefield 3 wasn't the PC during the game's entire development. DICE general manager Karl-Magnus Troedsson revealed in an interview with PSM3 (via CVG) that the lead platform for the game had actually moved to consoles halfway through development.

"We said originally that the PC was the lead SKU of the game, but in mid-production we switched to console as lead platform to make sure we could get all the versions done for release," Troedsson said. "Our ambition at DICE is to use the power of each individual platform to get the most out of the game," he added."

I dont really care about which was the lead platform but I hate how game companies are somehow allowed to flat out lie about their products and never get called on it. It isnt just EA, basically every AAA game is marketed to shit and never focusses on what the game is actually like (mostly because the game is actually shit because more money was spent on marketing it than making it). Also, consoles.

It's quite clear that the engine itself was built with high end PC's in mind, I don't think any of us would doubt that but I would say there are quite a few gameplay choices - which I would guess is the sort of thing you start thinking about two thirds of the way through a dev cylce - that strike me as being more centered around the console platforms.

While I can't say I'm exactly happy with everything, I get why developers put more focus on consoles, most of the time I don't even think it's entirely their choice but with publishers being as powerful as they are, even the purist of developers have to bow before the wrath of shareholders.

One thing I don't understand though is why you have to have a "lead" platform anyway, for a release like this (or say for instance MW3) could DICE not afford to have two different teams breaking off once the base engine and mechanics are formed. One team focusing on the consoles and one on the PC, sure you might get different experiences but presuming each team is as competent as the other, the two versions should in fact be superior to the other based upon the platform you happen to be playing on.

That was the case when titles were either exclusive to the PC or to consoles. Like bf1942 through bf2 were for pc, then they had BF2:MC the console version.

^i'm guessing sony and microsoft work very hard to keep multi-platform releases as similiar as possible, especially now that PC hardware is again advanced well beyond console hardware.  They're the lowest common denominator and they lobby hard to keep the software and expectations at their level.
