My best friend is a recently converted mormon. Still acts just the same as he did before. He still drinks occassionally and so does his wife. Haven't met a crazy mormon yet.
Simon,
A mormon is a member of this Church - The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. A mormon is a slang term for our members. Derived from a name in one of books we call the Scriptures ( e.g. the Holy Bible and the Book of Mormon). Does that help? Here is the chruch's website - www.lds.org if you want to know more about it.

actually YES....i live in utah and am not LDS (mormon)and for the most part its pretty benign. However, having said that i have heard the conversion process of we are the one true and everlasting religion and if you dont believe, (well you know where you are going. It does make it a nice place to live since the crime is lower, but I am planning on moving so my kids dont have to live with the (some, not all of the people) hypocritical nature of area. Sure tolerance is preached but it stops on monday after general conference and its back to normal. I dont like to pick on other church groups since i wouldnt want mine picked on.PFCStenzel wrote:

they came round my house once and said i couldnt drink tea or coffee! im english! not drink tea? how dare they!!!
No, you are wrong.....it is what we call Free Agency and it is your choice to join or not. You must have heard wrong. In Fact I served a Mission for 2 years in New York City and believe me....NOT once did I belittle a religion or did any other missionary there. We infact helped others learn more about it. Yes we believe that God has restored his Gospel through a Prophet in these last days as we call it. It is just like his church in the days of when Christ was on this earth. Alot of Utah mormons are very uhmmmm.....how can I say this head strong and think that. NOT THE CHURCH!!!!!!! Get it right man.......smtt686 wrote:

So, I am gonna give you +1 karma for xpressing your opinon. I am sorry for those that have caused you to believe that. They know not what they do or what they say......because they think they are all that and a bag of chips ok.
they came to door, i told them to take filthy religion elsewhere
I thought I was the only Mormon that plays this game... wow...
Everyone thinks we are a cult and I have no idea why...

I dated a Mormon girl in High School for a while. Been to a Mormon church, it was strange to say the least. The current Mormon church (Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) doesn't practice polygamy anymore (or so they say). But everyone there in the church was just... WEIRD! Everyone had a really strange vibe to themselves. I couldn't explain it.
Never again will I date a Mormon girl... Evar!
Edit: mean to say polygamy. not purgatory. lol

I know this is sort of off-topic and I apologize, but I was just wondering, do mormons give the Vatican the kind of respect catholics do? I'm not Catholic myself (not anymore anyway) I just got curious.
I almost went out with a mormon girl once...common sense and reason saved me from that massive blunder waiting to happen...
Mormons don't have a Vatican. Not inless you consider Joseph Smith to be theirs.PitViper401 wrote:

^^ They have a temple in Salt Lake City, Utah. They also have the 2nd highest security emplacement in america located in the hills somewhere in the eastern united states (if i remember correctly). It contains all their documents and stuff. Kinda like the Vatican vaults.
I think Mormans get a bad rap. Anyone who has seen anything I have posted in the Religion debate knows that I am not religious or god-fearing at all. That being said, from my own personal experience I have not met a group of people as nice and respectful as Mormans. Yes, some people (including myself) find their religious history a little wierd, but on a personal human level, they are some of the nicest people you meet. Kind of reminds me of the South Park episode dealing with them. I couldn't care less what people believe, as long as they do not prejudge people and respect humans for who they are, not what they look like or their opinions.
