So I got tired of paying $80/month for TV service. Plus $14 for Netflix. Plus $20 for Blockbuster (Local store Game and Movie Pass). etc etc

So back in February, I got rid of paid TV service. I bought Playon for $30 (includes first year subscription). I stream everything to my Xbox360 in HD. We only missed 3 shows (Supernatural and Smallville, because CW isn't on Playon. Burn Notice because I forgot about it over the summer.) And we have been really happy with it.

We get NO antenna service where we are. I don't know why. They just won't pick up. Even the super boosted, guaranteed to pick stuff up won't work in my area. We are in the City, not out in the country or anything, so I don't know why. A few neighbors have had luck with roof mounted antennas, but I really don't want one.

So here we are, happy about saving $80/month. Watching everything we want to watch... Except... Football season is starting. Crap. What do we do now? Anyone have any good idea on how to stream football to the TV for free? ESPN and ESPN3 I get on the Xbox, but they don't have much NFL... Most is on NBC and Fox, it seems like, and I can't watch those live.

Playstation Network (I also have a PS3) is offering NFL Sunday ticket, but it is $85/month and I am trying to save some money here...

If anyone has a good way of watching NFL (and maybe some college) football games without TV service, I appreciate the advise.

NFL Gamepass + VPN. But it'll cost you.

Try internet streaming, shitty quality but it works. Or go to a friends house to watch the big games.

Yeah, specifically, I am wanting something good to stream to my TV. I have a 65" HD tv, and have been watching HD shows for free by streaming them TO the tv... That is more of what I am interested in, while keeping the cost down.

Crappy internet streams don't really work out that great.

Thankfully my college game is on ESPN tomorrow, so I can watch it on the xbox.

Correct. I would rather buy a new camera, pay for my kid's sports, go to the movie, stick money into savings, and still be able to play my Xbox360 games, stream all my tv shows, and watch blu-ray movies. Silly me.

Would you take a $1,000/year without really losing anything other than maybe watching NFL? Cause that is what cable was costing me.

I am trying to find out a solution to this as well for my father. My mother and I want to get rid of cable (I don't use it, she rarely does) but my dad has to watch his foosball.

I have thought about having it just those months, to be honest, but am undecided... Still a lot of money for just football, no matter how big of a deal it is to me. I don't know. If it were as easy to find as everything else has been, there wouldn't be a question.

Use one of those cable boxes from the 1990s to steal cable. My dad used to do it.

Won't most cable providers have a contract a bit longer than that? Seems it would cost more to break it than to simply keep cable all year.

A couple in this area (including who I have my phone and internet through) don't have contracts. But most around here do.

Soooo, as I stated before, I couldn't get antennas to pick up in this area.

I bought a $100 amplified antenna. It was a piece of crap that only got 1 channel. I bought a $150 amplified antenna. It was a piece of crap that only got 3 channels, very weakly (40% signal strength)... So I spent $15 and built myself an antenna. Shockingly, this monstrosity works REALLY well!! Sure it is ugly, but I get 37 channels at over an 80% strength (Most are about 88-90) and then 3 Spanish channels at a weak 45-60% strength... YAY me! And for now: EFF YOU CABLE COMPANY!!!!
