Do Paris, not the South. Far more to see in Paris.

Otherwise yes, do a proper tour of Normandy etc..

I'll try but I can't stay in the UK too long if I've got 7 other countries to see in 4 weeks.

If you like touristy shit, go to Paris. If you don't care for it too much, visit Normandy and the Côte d'Azur, and spend a night in Monaco. Also, Try to fit in Croatia. It's cheap, it's beautiful (like, really beautiful), the people are fantastic and you can go north to Vienna or west to Venice pretty much straight from it.

tbh, you could pare down a lot of the cities unless there is something specific you want to see/do in each of them. They are all fairly similar to an extent unless you have stuff to do.
Interrail is a fantastic idea, you can get 30 days unlimited train travel to most of western Europe and you can get to Turkey, but not a lot of the Baltic states.
The big ones are worth seeing individually, like UK, France, Spain, but Germany AND Switzerland? I'd pick one. And the Baltic Eastern Europe cities are very similar.

Yeah I may or may not do Switzerland. I might just go straight to Italy from Austria.

Apparently InterRail is for EU residents only EUrail is $787 for a month pass

France: Paris during summer is a waste, the waiting lines are ridiculous ... Paris off season is one of the best cities of the world ... Cote D'Azur is great but the Atlantic coast is better imo and with somewhat fewer tourists... Biaritz is lovely. Normandy is on my list for next year ...

Spain: Excellent all over with Barca as a definite highlight

Italy: All over, the Ligurian coast (from Genova to Monaco with Pietra Ligure roughly on the middle) is my favorite, the Amalfi coast (south of Rome) is also very good, Venice is expensive but worth it imo ... there is a town named Bibione about 40 minutes north of Venice that has some of the best beaches in Italy compared to the price, some really good ones and prolly less German tourists south of Venice (Rimini perhaps)

South of Germany in general, Potsdam just south of Berlin for 16th century architecture at it's best, Prague is a must, Vienna is a must.

Norway: The southern coast and the west coast are the best places to visit, somewhat inland from the west coast has the most spectacular nature ... Svalbard if you like to freeze during summer ... Sweden isn't that exciting but has some good places if you like medieval history, Finland is like Svalbard with trees and lots of insects (never been to Finland myself, just rumours)

This.

Was in Croatia last year for a week and absolutely LOVED it. If you want the Mediterranean without all the crappy Italian touristy stuff, go to Croatia. Crystal clear water for meters on end, beautiful (but rocky) beaches, amazing food and it's all CHEAP. I was in Zadar (further down the coast) and I was eating at near gourmet places for less than what I would pay in Vienna for an average meal and it was freshly caught seafood. Food that 24 hours ago was alive. Fuck yea.

Are you going through Graz or are you just passing it southward on the A2?

I can really suggest it, as I live there.
It's like a small Vienna, in terms of architecture, history, sights, etc., only stripped from the nasty stink of a megacity.

If you have half a day to spend, visit the historic city and ride up the Schlossberg with the funicular, check out the old casemats and then walk down the stairs of the old fortifications.
Or use the elevator right down through the mountain. There's also a tiny train to ride inside the tunnels of the mountain.

I'll be taking the train everywhere so if it passes by/near Graz I don't see a reason not to check it out
