I think H&K hasn't quite figured out that FN has completely taken over their market.
And the HK 416/417 is, essentially, an overpriced piston AR.

So it's legal to own a handgun at 18 in the US when it's purchased by immediate family, as opposed to buying alone at 21. but can you get a CCW permit at 18 too?

It depends on the state, for CCW.
For purchasing, federal law says you can't buy a pistol from an FFL until you are 21. Now, if your state law doesn't limit you by age or force you to go through an FFL for pistol purchases, then you can buy one from a private seller at age 18. (Getting ammo will still be a pain though!)

@Jennings: I have several friends with concealed weapons permits. They're all over 21. So what are you trying to say.
@Raimius: What's FFL? All I know is that I can legally own a handgun at 18 if a family member purchases it for me. I want to know if I can legally conceal carry it at 18.
