Which would you choose? 2GB Dual Channel or 3GB total?

I just got a 2GB (2x1GB) matched pair of Corsair XMSC2pl RAM

I currently have 1GB(2x512MB) Corsair ValueRam

Should I go with 3GB using up my 4 slots? or 2GB of LL RAM in Dual Channel?

Which would be the smarter move?

go with 2GB dual channelled.

...then tape the extra ram to your motherboard.

Strange i guess but i think you'll find that 2Gb is the better option.

Also if you want to upgrade again you have spare slots

I'd certainly go with only the 2G in dual channel, you can get tighter timings with two sticks in addition those 2G sticks look quite a bit better as well.

Congrats and let us know how much of a difference you see.

Ditto on the 2g vote...tighter timings, (especially 1t command rate) and dual channel will have a bigger impact than another gig of RAM. It's not like the jump from 1g to 2g.

I agree with everyone on the 2gig vote. I've tried 3gig and it really didn't make an improvement except during video editing where I avoided writing to the HD as much, making the performance loss from dual channel unnoticable. I've since moved teh extra gig to another machine and am much happier gaming.

I can only use all of my 2 gigs if I actually try and use it all, so go with the dual channel.

Went with the 2GB option, but unfortunately after some difficulties, I haven't been able to test out BF2....

working out the issues with my soundcard right now...

Incredible difference. 30 seconds of stutter on high textures went down to less than 1 second of stutter. Load times are 5 times faster. Was able to max out all my settings without any AA, which I'm gonna try that tonight for kicks. Graphics are incredible, smooth as hell gameplay. Put life back into my dated comp. I'm beginning to think processor speeds are overrated though. My 2800+ Barton is keeping up with this easily. And that is a very dated processor.

Well, I got a 6800GS graphics card as well, on top of the new RAM.

1 Gig Value RAM to 2GB good stuff

FX5900 to 6800GS

Settings went from ALL LOW to ALL HIGH.

Nah I still have my Radeon 9700 Pro with 1 gig in dual channel (2x512). Enough for medium detail on 1280*1024...
