the only reason i have an use a credit card is for rewards programs.  i have a free banking account so theres no rewards system with it, but my credit card (that i pay off so frequently its basically a debit card) i get rewards for using it.

plus i first got it when i was paying business expenses with it so it was thousands of dollars a month put on it and then having it paid off by the company - im sure that helped my credit rating

Do purchases like that help increase your credit?

I think you mean creditworthiness. And yes they do. They look at how much credit you have, how much of it you utilize (they recommend not constantly utilizing more than 30% of it), the length of your credit history, your payment history, etc. I believe they also give more weight to things like mortgages than credit cards. I have a credit card and I use it for certain expenses, particularly gasoline (if I'm fueling up my mom or dad's cars), movie theaters and grocery stores. I always pay in full each month so I'm not incurring any interest expenses and I get cash back so I'm really getting paid to buy what I already shop for.

I don't see how you're getting cash back.

pretty sure using a debit card has nothing to do with your credit rating

I guess it's do-able, just means they pre-authorise your card for money money.
he doesn't need credit for anything now. i see no reason for credit cards in middle-age.
I swear my brain is slowly melting. Why would I write money money instead of more money?
I liked it! I thought it was very ghettoperson of you. Only would have been better if you had said Mo Money and then snapped your fingers...

It's a simple incentive credit card companies use to get people to sign up for their cards. On my card for example I get 4% back at the movies, 3% on gas, 2% on supermarkets and 1% on all other purchases (after the first $10,000 lolololol). The reason they can afford to do that is that a LOT of people are bad with credit and pay a lot of interest to the CC companies.

Other rewards might include airline miles or hotel points.

besides games were just an example. groceries are something that can be expensive per trip for a family.

So if you pay off the debt at the end of the month, and not miss the payment, you get money back?  "niiiiiiiice " - SP

And how. I was behind a gal that racked up a $400 worth of the stuff the other day. I would've laughed if she would've done something like take the milk off.

Or, I can afford it now. But prefer to earn interest on MY money while using someone else's with no interest, and get frequent flyer points on top of that.
