Yeah, well, that has never been me, so whatever. Most of my friends in high school were Jewish, and I dated a Jew for 3 1/2 years. I never saw it as an issue until I graduated and realized how compartmentalized most Jews on Long Island are. They live in Jewish communities, eat their Kosher food, and live lives that are parallel to everyone else, but seem to have very little contact with non-Jews. By choice. It's the same as Black people choosing to live in Black communities or Asians all living in Flushing. I certainly didn't put them there. Maybe I'm just more sensitive to it because I grew up in a very mixed town. We had your standard white Germans, Polish, Irish, your Italians and Hispanics, your Blacks, Asians and Jews. And no one had their own little unmixed neighborhood. Even the projects had their own sprinkling of white trash. Racial issues just didn't really exist. Then I left my town and realized how segregated the rest of Long Island is. It sucks.
