Huawei has sunk Nortel, half screwed Alcatel and Lucent and will nail Cisco next.
Not to mention they dont hesitate to steal trade secrets.
Receive and duplicate.
Right
Now, before any technology can be introduced into China, it must be intensely “studied” — in fact, stolen even before it enters the market. Another is increased allocation of “patents” to Chinese firms with virtually no verification, making it virtually impossible to pursue legal indemnification for losses.

America is different, with its 'first to patent' instead of 'first to invent' IP protection system?

There's not really that much IP advantage to even be had these days, I wouldn't get excited about that being a big deal.
Nevertheless:

The main driver is its workers - of which 46% are engaged in research and development (R&D). The company has applied for more than 49,000 patents.
Now tell me the Chinese all have poor hand-eye coordination and are scared of heights.

It is different. IP is a big deal. .. and if you can't see the advantage of preventing a product from going to the market until you've acquired the design and manufactured you're own version of the product I really can't help ya.

My whole career has been in technology and IP development.

You're a realtor.

I don't need help from you, thanks.

Very often getting a product to market first is whats important, there are always ways of sidestepping patents and product lifecycles are so short due to being overtaken by a new technology or simply going out of fashion it doesn't matter too much.
By the time a competitor has tooled up the advantage has probably gone, the product has died and its not worth worrying about.

That and there is so much parallel development that patenting your unique way of catching a mouse is fairly futile.
Is it really worth spending 2-3 years and hundreds of thousands of dollars protecting a neat way of making plasma screens slightly brighter?
I'd say not.

Not that patents aren't used as a weapon or threat, just much less than they used to be.

They're preventing the sale of a product until they can match it. Why do you think they do that? You should realize the significance of being on the technological edge, and it's importance in the industry. Yes technology will eventually be matched once a product hits the market. But establishing yourself as an innovator amongst early adopters as well the industry leaders is still very important. Personally, I really don't give a crap about what kind of credentials you think you have over me. The truth is you know nothing about my educational background and history. Your flawed understanding of very basic business practices tells me more than your than your resume ever could.

Uh huh, how many patents do you have to your name?

How many patents have you busted?

How many products you developed are in the market selling to customers?

Just curious.
I'm not too interested in your educational background either if you're going to be a dick, and business theory as taught in schools is both out of date by a decade usually and taught by people who've mostly read about it in books.

nortel was out of it before Huawei came around. alcatel lucent has done a poor job in securing their future through development of new product lines. cisco's not going anywhere any time soon.

The business world is a ruthless world.  Stealing/infringing on trade secrets and infringing on IP isn't anything new, and it's certainly not exclusive to China/chinese companies.  China/chinese companies are often mentioned these days as the worst offenders because virtually every large company has moved their manufacturing base there.  It's not a chinese thing, its a business thing.

also weird that corps have trillions, and aren't hiring. Only in America, where bullet points rule and dividends are the norm.

Well, I was working with Nortel and Huawei simultaneously at one point, they've been going a lot longer than people realise.

As a shareholder I like dividends, if America wants jobs they need to adjust the corporate landscape via the tax system.

At least Indians are getting jobs.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-14321190
US car maker Ford is planning to expand its operations in India as it attempts to capture a greater share of the country's car market.

The US carmaker says it plans to invest $1bn (612m) in building a new factory in the western state of Gujarat, its second production line in India.

The announcement comes as Ford is looking to increase its global sales by 50% over the next four years.

India is one of the fastest-growing car markets in the world.

"These new state-of-the-art facilities will help us reach the goal of increasing worldwide sales by nearly 50% by mid-decade to about 8 million vehicles per year," said Michael Boneham, president and managing director of Ford India.

They aren't hiring new or unknown talents off the streets.  They are poaching established talent and paying appropriately.  And only working with pre-established hiring/consulting firms.  Gone are the days of hiring fresh talent and letting them learn the ropes for a year or two.

You want to talk service industry?  Hah.  Asians have the US and Europe beat hands down.  You go to any busy modern restaurant or retailer in most Asian countries.  Every which way you look, there is someone ready to help.  Look at some item, and one or two of them will approach asking if you need help.  They'll carry your items as you look at other items, and then personally help you to the cashier.  At McDonalds, they'll quickly come by and clear tables, and offer to take your waste away when you are done.  "Sir/Madame" is heard everytime.

Good luck getting the same experience here, save for the upscale retailers and restaurants.

And speaking of patents, what about Apple's and Microsoft's attacks on Android?  Preventing HTC products from coming into the US for some "link" technology that should be public domain at this point.

This obviously doesn't apply to Thailand. Yes if youre buying trinkets from the street vendors. But service in general was fucking horrible.

Of course it's nothing new, but when there is no real international legal standard.. and when it is so flagrantly encouraged by other state governments the problem is compounded.
