Though of the good things that come out of this, that would be one: people will to a lesser extent think "muslim" everytime there is an attack or violence within a country.

Well a "foreign terror cell" sounds like a nice way of saying Muslim terrorist. I struggle to think of active international terror groups aside from the IRA, and ETA, and various Muslim groups. I don't think the Irish or Basque have any grievances with the Norwegians.

I know that, the difference is that they didn't assume it was them, but put it forth as a possibility next to right-wing extremists.

This is kind of a pointless discussion anyway. As I said, hopefully this whole incident will remind people that extremists aren't limited to a single religion. There will hopefully be less people who automatically think "muslim" next time something like this happens.

As Jenspm said, there's a difference between suggesting that there was a possibility that an Islamic terrorist group did it and stating plainly that an Islamic terror group did it, which is what some media outlets were all too happy to do. And saying one claimed credit is no excuse, anyone who's studied terrorism in any sort of depth knows that claims of responsibility hold little credibility in and of themselves.

The whole Christian angle is a bit off, I feel. He wasn't a 'proper' Christian, and I doubt he did this in the name of Christianity. He merely associated himself with Christianity as it's an easy way to paint the picture of a "proper Norwegian" - white, tall, blonde, Christian. A way of distancing himself from Islam, of creating a "correct religion", really.

The media have been too hasty to put this guy into different boxes - Christian, right-wing party member, freemason, etc - without thinking through what these groups actually mean to him.

He used Christianity to help him form the "ideal Norwegian", to me it was nothing more than that.
