No idea, we were told to wear it on the left though, nothing was said about which side post-ceremony.

It was such a posh event though, procession into and out of the hall, trumpets, guys with stupid hats and flags on the end of spears, felt like it was the 19th century or something.

that's a shame. not even in your old and prestigious universities? such a shame. i love that we keep our tradition and ceremony, makes it feel at least as though earning a degree is an achievement beyond qualifying for shitty management jobs nowadays. but yeah, high-school graduations are truly terrible... they reward mediocrity and applaud people for doing what anybody should be able to fucking do that is born with a functioning brain.

Clearly you have never seen our uni's. Uni here is like high school for most. You pick something you like and you do it, bachelor and masters. No one quits after their bachelor, because you'll end up unemployed.
So thats why the uni graduations arent cool because to everyone it feels the same as with what you said about a high school graduation.

Whenever i see you uni or oxford or any of those i almost get jealous for not having those type of uni's here.
You feel smart and like you achieved something as soon as you step through the goddamn door. Whenever i stepped in my uni it felt like starting another 5 years of high school but with better hours.

I grew sick and tired of high school pretty quick and uni was no exception. Thats why i am not getting a degree or whatever but am going straight to work as something i would love to do.

k.t. tunstall (!) an ex-alumni, lenny henry also graduated in my class (he was a PhD student)... uum i've already mentioned earlier trisha's daughter, so trisha was there... princess anne was there... uuh there's quite a few celebrity professors but i guess they don't really count. lady heseltine? fred piper is really big in compsci isn't he? he was made one this year.

I'll just grab the book about it, I didn't know who any were apart from Jimmy Armfield (footballer)

Bletchley park was where they cracked the enigma machine in ww2, he's on the board of trustees there.

Cryptography is really quite interesting, especially pre-computers, it's one of the few topics about computer science that didn't bore me to death.
