Most beer is 4-6% so it doesn't make a whole lot of difference. And if you were drinking 8+% beer then you'd probably make mention of it.DesertFox- wrote:
What good is alcohol by volume, anyway? Sure it can tell you the volume of alcohol in a drink, but you don't know the concentration of it, so that is pretty much useless information.

12beers is 3liter, if you spread that over an evening you are drunk, but not shitfaced. but it depends on the eveningStimey wrote:

12 beers and I'm passed out, providing I can actually handle all the fluid intake...
12 beers is 4 liters and that'll hardly get me drunk

Umm, no it's not. 5% abv tells you that the total volume is comprised of 5% alcohol, 95% other liquid. You don't know the molar concentration of the ethanol though.Jay wrote:

It depends which state you are in.Jay wrote:

Here in QLD the standard is also 120z, a schooner.
When I lived in Tasmania you could only get 10oz (pots) or pints (20oz).
It differs again depending which states you live in, but these three sizes are the general norm.
Assume 100% of the 5%.DesertFox- wrote:

Is a pony a Vic thing?
here its' 275ml for coolers and other girly stuff, 330ml bottles and 330/440/500/556/1000ml cans for beer. 330 and 500ml are the most broadly used. 440 / 556 are import only.

Imports tend to be 330 only.
Local beers are usually 375 though lately (as in within the previous decade) a few 330s are now available.
You can also buy 750/800ml longnecks or "tallies".

Oh, and I know overseas everyone thinks Fosters when they think Aussie beers. That beer is so vile you cannot buy it anywhere in Australia - I've never ever seen in it in my 14 years of drinking, and that includes most of Australia (capital cities anyway).
can you get messed up on like the average 40oz?
Philosophy, economics, culture, science, art. <3
Only if you drink 3 of them
That still only gets you a volume, but I suppose you could measure density and apply that to it to determine a rough concentration. I should buy some alcohol and conduct an experiment.Jay wrote:

The moles per liter is a constant. So would be the molar mass, thus the concentration is tied to abv.DesertFox- wrote:

Just like with vodka, the 60 proof denotes 30% ethanol, 70% water.
