It's clearly the lifestyle that many of you have chosen. I just fail to see the point. Why deny yourself pleasure just to add a few theoretical months to your lifespan? Who's to say you won't get hit by a car next week or have a heart attack at 55 anyway?

If you want to jump out of airplanes, or ride motorcycles at high speed, or eat unhealthy food... if it makes you happy, I say do it. Life sucks enough without going out of your way to strip out anything you might gain a sense of enjoyment out of. Now, some people genuinely like to exercise and stare at their abs in the mirror or whatever, and that's fine. I just have a problem when they try to preach to me and others, especially when it leads to excise taxes and other attempts at forcing their lifestyle on others.

I don't like lean burgers. I want those juices to flow. I want butter in my diet. And salt. And undercooked fish and beef. Bring it on!
i agree with this pretty much. I'd still eat more unhealthy foods if it wouldn't be risking killing me before my time. As it stands I've been on a diet for the past few weeks but I still let myself enjoy tasty foods.

I think the key is to make the food yourself (or at least eat at good restaurants, not McDonald's) and to watch your portions.
That's really all it is. Watch your portions and exercise at least a moderate amount and you never have to worry about chasing health food fads.

Yep. I've shed some pounds already, and my blood pressure has been getting back to normal as well. All I've been doing is exercising (although this week I've been bad), watching my portions, and just not eating shitty. I'll get a salad instead of a Big Mac during the week, I'll have fruit instead of chips for a snack, and I drink copious amounts of water instead of copious amounts of sugary, creamy coffee like I used to. I'm good for most of the week and then on the weekends I give myself more leeway.

Yeah. Not chronic hypertension, just a little higher than it ought to be for my age. Trust me, I used to have a very shitty diet and pretty much never exercised, and I smoke on top of all that.

I don't think eating fruits, veggies, and non processed foods is a fad.  I do however favor organic.

And a lot of them get their produce from the same place

My girl is always funny with stuff like that. She wants to stop at every road stand she sees. Even though I point out that the stuff she is buying is out of season and that there is no way that it was grown locally, she buys it anyway.

So? You do realize that Cargill is the largest producer of organic food in America, ya?

It was a fantastic marketing scheme on their part. They got you when you were buying the 'bad stuff' and then turned around and handed you the 'good organic stuff' at a higher price. Brilliant.

its more about pesticides.  while they are not bad for you in small doses, you actually get more benefit from a strawberry without pesticides than with for example.

Parental units have several palms.. .  I almost got doinked by one last visit.  As they are about 30ft high, they can kill.  Can peel one pretty quick though.
I stood in line for four hours. They better give me a Wal-Mart gift card, or something.  - Rodney Booker, Job Fair attendee.

Coconut milk like coconut cream? Love cooking with it, never thought to drink the stuff though.

I've lived a largely unhealthy lifestyle for 10+ years but turned that around 7-8 months ago. I a tually enjoy eating healthy now, and if I have junk food I actually feel physically bad for it afterwards. But it's my choice and whilst my housemates eat pretty terrible food a lot of the time I hopefully don't preach to them much if it all. I've just mentioned a few things I've learnt and the benefits I've gotten from it.

In saying this I will still have the occasional burger with chips. But they're now a treat, rather than a staple.

Fast food burgers and greasy spoon breakfasts have been pretty much cut out of my diet (e: for years now). As a result, I feel pretty ill when I eat either, though I can more happily hold down the burger. Doesn't say much for diner breakfasts.

Also had a chihuahua at one point that would eat anything she came in contact with, until she was offered imitation crab. Looked up at me like 'et tu?' then walked off.

Milk from Oat is a good subsistute for those that are allerigic to the protein in regular milk, that however is very low on Calcium and Magnesium ... Coconut milk have both of those but also have more fat ... not a problem if you train as much as you said ...

I use coconut milk and cream in cooking rather than milk and double cream etc etc ...

One of my housemates is lactose intolerant so he buys lactose free milk. Not sure how it tastes, but if lactose is a concern that's one alternative.
