One thing I never understood about them .. They claim their goal as supporting open and free information (like with wikileaks), but then they go around shutting down the websites with opposing views.

That is true they attracted the attention in the first place, and it's a good point you make about the police waiting till everyone is fed before moving in. On one hand you could argue that they were simply trying to get the most numbers but I would like to think, as I'm sure you do too, that they were simply being sympathetic to their cause whilst still carrying out their duty.FEOS wrote:

They really forced the police dept's hand by calling attention to themselves. The police even made sure everyone was fed before making the arrest. I mean it's not like they don't care. This was more of a protest than a feeding.Jaekus wrote:

Seriously though, aren't police resources better used than to arrest people for feeding the homeless? It seems a pretty heavy handed approach to what is basically charity.
If you want to know what some of the questions are on a Group Feeding permit ..
- Describe how and where all foods on the menu will be stored, prepared, transported, cooked, and served at the event. No extensivefood preparation may be done onsite at the events. All foods must be prepared before the event at a licensed commissary. Only final foodassembly, cooking, and serving at the event will be allowed.
- List equipment and describe facilities that will be used at the temporary food establishment. All temporary food establishments musthave adequate cooking, hot holding (>135F), and refrigeration facilities (<41F).
- Describe how hands will be washed.
- How will wastewater and garbage be disposed?

Some might consider that a rather light sentence if they inadvertently sent dozens of people to the emergency room. It's also likely the judge will show some leniency. It's probably just going to be a $150 fine.Jaekus wrote:

To the second part, it is basic food handling practice. I can understand why a permit is required, but up to 60 days prison???
They're self-important douchebag internet 'activists'. Being a hypocrite comes with the territory.Kmar wrote:

They are not organised in the slightest. They are so anonymous the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is going. They will always be contradictory in anything they do because of it.ghettoperson wrote:

They can't think or act independently. That's why they are idiots. They can't be associated with any act that isn't dumb shit by default.ghettoperson wrote:

I know it's a douche bag thing to say but feeding the homeless is like feeding stray cats. They'll stay in the area for the handout. I'm guessing that the city doesn't want them to congregate since Orlando is known for being a tourist spot. The group lost a court battle in April, clearing the way for the city to enforce the ordinance. It requires groups to obtain a permit and limits each group to two permits per year for each park within a 2-mile radius of City Hall.
Arrest papers state that Cross, Markeson and McHenry helped feed 40 people Wednesday night. The ordinance applies to feedings of more than 25 people.
Or at least keep them in one spot anyway everything.Orlando has offered to give them a designated spot around Lake Eola which is only about a 20 minute walk from where they were arrested. That spot is much better, it even has tables and portable toilets
Where at in Tampa specifically? Yea if you go in to certain urban areas you're going to run in to some. You will in any major city.Macbeth wrote:

That's fine and all.
How bad is Florida's homeless problem anyway? Last time I was there the highways in and around Tampa had homeless people begging on them. I was surprised by the amount.

I was going to say something similar. Aren't most of these types of things in "downtown" areas over there anyway? There's not much need to have it in a nice area near the town hall....Macbeth wrote:

The reason for the laws is to ensure the food the homeless people are getting isn't tainted. When I'd volunteer we'd have to throw out like half the food we got because it didn't follow the standards for acceptable. A lot of times people will give out food because they want to clear their pantry without looking at how old it is or if it's already been opened or not, so it rots. Even if you're giving out fresh grown food, there's a concern that you want manage it properly and thus there will be a breakout of e.coli or something or other.AussieReaper wrote:

illegally fed homeless people? it's sickening that there are laws against feeding the starving.
Saw it on the show "Bizarre Foods" on Travel Channel. Here's an article about the episode.AussieReaper wrote:
Where did you get the info that states
FNB "repatriates" much of their food from dumpsters after it's been thrown out by restaurants and grocers
?
Andrew literally digs deep to find San Francisco's food counter-culture. He accompanies the non-profit group Food Not Bombs to "rescue" food from grocery and restaurant dumpsters to feed the homeless.
Edible definitely meets the political on his outing with Katie Chamberlain and Margie White from Food Not Bombs. Chamberlain and White call themselves "freegans," vegans who acquire free food that's either donated or rescued from store or restaurant dumpsters. Andrew seems a bit wary when they open up dumpster tops on the street, and he is shocked at what he finds.
"I went out expecting that the food tossed away was an apple here an apple there," he says. Instead, they discover huge amounts of packaged food: 50 pound crates of bananas, 10 pounds of strawberries, and boxes of lettuce.
Yeah. I think we all get that.Dilbert_X wrote:

Anonymous is essentially a bunch of socially retarded fan boys who think they are being edgy. Occasionally they organize stuff themselves and carry it off very much the exception though. More frequently the people that first founded Anonymous (and have since moved on) organise things at a much higher level (see Lulzsec) and manipulate the new fags to get involved for safety in numbers etc or just to blame it on Anonymous as its the ideal scape goat.AussieReaper wrote:

It is that hard when you have motives far beyond feeding the poor, like publicity for yourself.Varegg wrote:
Can't be that hard to follow a simple rule like that, I'm sure every civilized country have food & health rules similar to this ...
Well as I said, then this isn't about feeding anyone, this is about THEM.Dilbert_X wrote:
