There's some expert who described your sexuality as a scale from 1 to 10, where 1 was completely gay and 10 completely straight. If you'd asked anyone to put themselves on the scale, you'd get a lot of 10s, obviously. However, I'm convinced that in reality we're all closer to the center than we actually think. The socially constructed idea of same-sex intercourse being something disgusting is what pushes us out there, not nature. I also think that self-proclaimed homosexuals would place themselves closer to the center, seeing as they'e already made that jump away from the social norm. And that's not because straight people compensate and have this desire to make sure everyone knows they are 100% straight (though some do) - it's because they don't know.

Social norms push gays closer to 1 on the scale as well, especially girls - shit-scared of being labled as bisexuals (nobody likes bisexuals) or attention whores (nobody likes attention whores).

Male-male sex has a negative image severely strengthened by its assosiation to anal sex. But sex isn't all about penetration. What's the diference between kissing a guy and kissing a girl, physically? What's the difference between fingering a girl and wanking a guy? So much is about the pleasure you get from pleasing your partner. What, really, is the difference between an up-and-down motion and a back-and-forth motion, so to speak? I cannot believe that one sex is naturally drawn to the up-and-down-grip movement, while the other is apalled by it. Purely physically, it should have the same effect, surely.

Likewise, when recieving, is there any difference between the female and the male hand?

I have a really close lesbian friend. If you asked her, she'd say she was a lesbian, but she openly admits to having a few guy-crushes. She's also currently with a guy, for the first time since 'coming out' five years ago. Does that make her bi-sexual, which essentially means a 5 on that scale? Hardly - she still checks out girls on the street and her favourite sport to watch is women's tennis. She wouldn't think of dating guys before this, but says it's 'true love' (and she doesn't throw that term around, well, ever, not when talking about previous relationships either) - seeing as love is generally considered a mental thing rather than a physical one (you don't *love* the girl next door because she has the best ass you've ever seen), should it not be equally possible to fall in love with both sexes?

It's a difficult concept to imagine, because it's so rigidly built in to us. I can find guys attractive/charming/handsome, but there are never any sort of sexual thoughts behind it - just, you know, man crushes. If we lived in a society without any sexual boundries or set norms, though, maybe I would have sexual feelings towards them? Maybe when walking down the street I'd look at everyone, and not just half..
