Yes it is give you got enough altitude and close enough distance.Shahter wrote:

p.s. i'd also like to ask people knowledgeable in the field a question if they don't mind (FEOS, lowing?):
is it possible to land a modern aircraft - like an airliner - with all it's engines off? i understand that it would be impossible to use the engines to slow it down once it touches down so normal landing strip might not be long enough, but would it be possible to safely touch down at all?
Depends on the situation, weather conditions, it would probably be a controlled crash.Shahter wrote:

I have no experience flying jets, only small piston aircraft, so I cant give a 100% accurate answer. I do know that just about any aircraft, including helicopters, can glide without anythrust whatsoever. That being said, for large aircraft such as jetliners, you have to take into account landing distance without reverese thrust, weather conditions, the surface it lands on IE turf or asphalt, the mechanical drag caused by the number of engines/surfaces on the aircraft, the passener/fuel/cargo load, etc. Yes it is 100% possible to land and fly a large aircraft without engine power, but how smooth things end up going depend on a number of variables.Shahter wrote:

As far as smaller aircraft go, such as a piper cherokee or cessna 172, those things can land in less than a thousand feet.
