You have a 1920x1200 monitor too?

the black bars are painfully annoying...

That is Witcher 2.  Areo, are you playing at Ultra settings?  What are you using to screencapture?  Can't seem to screen capture from fullscreen.

Seriously? I thought that annoyance stopped in the 90's when old people were still confused about widescreen.

I'm fairly used to not having black bars and instead having 120px more vision.
Too bad poland doesn't want to co-operate.

More split-screen fun with emulators .
Spoiler (highlight to read):
Since modern console games don't support the feature

I miss that game so much, I might just buy a PS2 for it.

Does the Gamecube emulator run any better than the PS2 one? I swear to god I got about 15 FPS in Ratchet and Clank at a high.

The Gamecube emulator is pretty demanding actually.

On my machine (2.9GHz dual core, 4GB RAM, 8800GT) TS2 runs fine in small corridors but when you go into large outside areas (like in Ice Station) it slows right down. Metroid Prime is slow most of the time. Burnout 2 is fine, SSBM is almost fine. Apparently you need a pretty top of the line PC to get F-Zero GX to run at 60fps.

Dolphin right?
I've had no real problems with it tbh. Wind Waker was a bitch to get running though...

tech retard question, why do PCs that are a lot more powerful than those consoles were struggle to run emulators?
I've always wondered.

Yeah it works pretty much flawlessly. My PC just isn't good enough for smooth full speed gameplay.

I don't know any technical details but I know in this case especially, the Gamecube had strange hardware (It had a PowerPC CPU for a start, and a funny CPU GPU setup) so using brute force to pretend your PC is running that setup is resource intensive.

Or something. I have no idea what the technical reason is.

Cause it's all coded by the community.

i thought it was to do with completely different graphics rendering methods and different processing technologies. people coding emulators have a really tough job trying to adapt a game-code designed specifically for a platform (e.g. playstation 2) to then run on a PC.

Exactly. They do them well enough to run them, but on a tech-by-tech comparison, you can't run them well on a PC with similar specs to the emulated console as it's just too different.

I think the people who code emulators are pretty fucking skilled. I don't claim to know anything about their methods, but it still impresses me.
