On the other hand the US is just as big as Europe, I imagine people there have to drive around a lot more so consumption must be much higher on average.

but naw americans generally have to drive a lot further than most peeps. Not everywhere in the US is dense enough to be more convenient. but gas prices here are fucking ridiculous though.
