Nah, they'll rename LaGuardia after him. Bloomberg is clearly more important.
no they need to close all three and build one massive airport off shore...or level half of new jersey.
Would that mean less planes screaming over my apartment? I'm down with that.
yes.  and less of the mess they call their airspace system.

i'm going to take a stab in the dark here and say that the gov't will bring up the old "it's so we can catch criminals/terrorist. you wouldn't mind unless you're one of them? do you support criminals/terrorist?"

KHWV and KFOK too, essentially. Though KHWV is self-controlled (no tower, just ASOS and runway control - though the runway is just "advised", you can technically land on whatever runway you want as long as you announce it) and KFOK is the Air National Guard wing.

Though that's just LI.

Just turn NJ into a gigantic airport. Makes more sense, that would be the only useful thing to become of NJ. Large enough to handle the air traffic for the north east.

I don't think the chip will have your exact location, it'll likely be a rough estimate simply to figure out whether or not you're inside a certain area that an alert is issued for. That way, if you're on vacation in Wyoming and there's an alert in NYC, you won't get a message.

What? No... no. no. Not the point.  Don't want.

A chip in every phone, to do what proven methods such as apps and SMS can already do...  No, this is not fishy.  Not fishy at all.

it's the principle and the potential you should be wary of. why are you so trusting of your government and higher authority? always be suspicious of power. always. even if it's masquerading as the most benevolent and charitable power imaginable-- power's very nature means it needs a check from the general populace. just allowing stuff like this because it "doesn't sound all that bad" is to completely ignore your duty to individual liberty. there's nothing stopping a chip in your phone that 'only' detects your vague area from suddenly detecting your precise location in a time of need.

this is true

maybe an always-on app that you install would be better. I already get email alerts from local emergency management agencies because I'm signed up for them, but if I'm in say Georgia and there's a tornado warning, I wouldn't know because I'm not gonna sign up for their alerts if I'm only there for a few days. Whereas if I had an app that would update my location and shoot me any relevant alerts, that'd be kinda nice. All without a permanent chip.

precisely. there really is no justification for attaching a chip (which is pretty sinister, when you think about it) to every mobile device. when it's enforced by a mandatory, undemocratic law, as well... you have to ask what the fuck is going on. why can't the govt. release an app with the same purpose? a noble programme all of a sudden becomes a suspicious power ploy when they start talking about installing chips on every individual's hand-accessory...

these things seldom happen when it's about matters of 'security' (national or personal). it's a government putting shit down your throat "because it's good for you". just like cod liver oil: a myth that tastes fucking bad.
